Be advised before you buy
Based on many other reviews this, no doubt, is a quality product. However, upon receipt of the product the lid is prominently labeled that if used on exterior wood it is "highly recommended" that a 2-step epoxy sealer be applied first. In an email exchange with System Three they confirmed that without the sealer moisture intrusion into the wood through this varnish product would likely be high, yielding early topcoat film damage due to the wood's expansion/contraction.Moreover, noting my application as a raised panel white oak front door, System Three recommended the product as unsuitable since the natural thermal/moisture movement of the raised panels would prohibit the application of the epoxy sealer (i.e., break the sealer at the rabbets which the panels fit into). Instead, for a front door, they recommended using a penetrating oil finish such as PPG's Sikkens. Admittedly requiring refinishing every year or two.My assumption is that System Three prepares the product ad which appears on Amazon. All that the ad states are that the product resists UV, water and salts. There is no statement that this is true, for exterior wood applications, only if the user first applies the recommended 2-step epoxy coating. So, although I do not believe it is intentional, the ad is misleading or at best an incomplete product description. The product is not returnable, but thanks to Amazon's excellent customer focus they did immediately grant a refund for this purchase. Thank you, Amazon!!

Works great
Made my kayak beautiful. I did have a bit of a problem finding the right thickness, the first coat I added thinner on a 1-10 ratio and this made it thin enough that running was a problem, so I didn’t add any thinner on the second coat and that coat went on too thick. Find the sweet spot and you’ll love this rod it.

Clear marin spar
The important word is "marin". We used different brand of varnish on our Patio ceiling and posts, now only after a few years wood started to rot, despite southern California weather, where there is very little rain. We couldn't get it in California as it is banned, so it had to be shipped by land from east coast, but it was worth the wait. We'll update after a few years, but my husband says it will work.

Clear Marine Varnish
This product was recommended for our 1823 Historic Home front door. Excellent product and brought back the glorious old wood. Very pleased with this product.

6 layers over 12 days did it!
Slow drying time but that is what makes it work so well to refinish and build up layers and layers.Picture of very old door that now shines with six coats of sanding and finishing. The attached photo shows how nice the very old door looks after finishing the build up of the 6 layers or coats.

If you want a marine spar varnish, accept no other... this is the real deal.
I'm using this to coat the frame of my Geodesic Aerolite skin on frame canoe... it is great stuff. The wood finish with this product is beautiful and I expect it will hold up once I hit the water with the boat.

Protect that boats trim from weather and UV damage.
Very easy to apply with a good brush. It is suggested that multiple coats may be required, but I only needed one.

Looks beautiful and is durable
We used this product on our south facing fir door and it holds up well to the sun and looks beautiful. It's the matte finish so it's not shiny which is what we wanted.
