A Hassel I dont mind
I'm a very lazy reader and Sven Hassel is pretty much all I read . This Danish born writter claims his fourteen books are based on personal experiences based on his service in the German army in world war 2 . If you have never read any of his work dont think they are extolling the virtues of the German army they more concern the battle for personal survival of a group of missfits in the war who could have fought for any side and didnt really care for the beliefs of their leaders but merely fought to survive .I have all fourteen books as paperbacks that are getting very tatty as I read that slowly that I read them all and can then start again so I was delighted to get a kindle and download them to it . I would wholeheartedly recommend all of his books to anyone likeing war books .

A+++
Read about a factual based but fictional aspect from a german soldier's perspective. Fascinating and Sven Hassel manages to draw you in and keep you addicted! The only shame about all of his books is that they are not in historical order and the characters get a bit confusing as they are out of time sync.

OGPU. Prison
A little long winded. Whilst I accept than this is part fact, and fiction. It shows how brutal war is, maybe low value of life. Not only the civilians, but the militar

Good read except that there's too much of the book dedicated to things away from the main characters. But all of Sven Hassel's books are worth reading and I've got one more to read and that will be the complete set. I must have read all of these around 8-9 times, since reading the first book back in the 70's and I dare say I'll read them again sometime.

Sven Hassel war story
Read all of Sven Hassels books and even though they are gruesome they also have a lot of humour. Any war story lovers would enjoj this very much. I just wish there were more of them.

Boys Book
If not obvious from the title and cover! :-)I read all Hassel's books as a teenager and in my early 20's. For blood and guts, gritty war tales they are great. I bought OGPU Prison (again - my original paperbacks long ago went to a charity shop, I think) just because it popped up somewhere on a screen on my Kindle as a nostalgia read. I've only dipped into it so far, but it is how I remember it. Well crafted characters that one kind of grows to like (which is odd when they are the 'baddies' - and often brutal and harrowing descriptions of warfare on the Russian Front.

Good read
Took quite a while to arrive but it was NOT the sellers fault. Canada Post is pokey and pricey. Great adventure stories.
