Well made seems to be holding up well.
I use this to secure a lightweight tool that I use close to 100 times a day to my belt loop. I've been using it for several months with no issues. That's probably close to 8,000 extension/retraction cycles already.Update 7/21/2014: I'm still using this daily at the same duty rate and it's still performing quite well. If it dies tomorrow I would consider it well used, given the frequency with which I use it. I'm probably pushing 20,000 extension / retraction cycles at this point. I would happily purchase a replacement if I needed to, but I don't get the sense it's planning to give out any time too soon.Update 2/5/2016: This thing is still going strong and I use it ~100 times/day, 5 days/week. It's probably close to 100,000 extension / retraction cycles by now. A year ago I snagged it on a ladder and kinked the cable loop at is the attachment point for whatever you connect to the retractor. I found that a cable type keyring worked well as a replacement, so I swapped it in and kept using it. Today, I noticed that a few strands of the cable have broken, so I need to replace the cable again. However, the body, the clip, the spring and the line are all functioning as new. I'll snap a new cable in the end and keep on using it. I bought a couple more T-REIGN Retractors when I came across them on sale to have as backup. They're still in the packaging and it doesn't look like they're going to be pressed into service any time soon. Color me impressed!Update 2/7/2017: Chalk up another year of daily use ~100 extension / retraction cycles every workday. I wore out a second cable loop so I just replaced it with another cable style keychain loop, which fits just about like the original steel cable end loop. The thing is still going strong. The spring shows no sign of weakening and the dacron line shows no signs of wear. Truly outstanding durability.Update 2/7/2018: Another year of hard use in the books. I managed to finally wear out the tether a couple of months ago, so I replaced it with 100lb test dacron fishing line that I already had (it's just about identical to the original line). I disassembled the retractor to replace the line. When I had it open, I was impressed by the robustness of the spring and the quality of construction. I've been using this thing every working day for 4 years now. It's accumulated an incredible number of extension/retraction cycles by now. I'm very impressed by this tether.Update 1/2/2022: I have since retired but the retractor I reviewed is still going strong. It doesn't get used nearly as much anymore, so I assume that it will outlast me.NOTE: the product that I wrote this review about was manufactured by T-Reign. They are now being advertised as Boomerang Tools. I assume that this means the original company or product was bought-out. Oftentimes, when this happens, manufacturing gets moved and/or materials get changed to reduce manufacturing costs. I have no idea if the current "Boomerang Tool" device is in any way equivalent to the "T-Reighn" device that I purchased and reviewed. I hope that it is. Caveat Emptor...

Made well and works well!
A camera can slide out of your pocket when you sit down, or a pickpocket can just loop their finger in the wrist leash and slip it out without you knowing, so I bought this to keep my point and shoot camera tethered to me while travelling in Europe. For the purpose I was using it for, the retraction force is a bit high, but it wasn't too bad either. I could see how it'd be useful to hang devices from a belt (as it was designed for).Pros:* Well made* Case rotates freely on the clip (maybe not a pro per se, but I liked that feature)* Steel loop is easy to use and well designed.* Clip is very sturdy and secures wellCons:* The tether, although it may be kevlar, looks like normal string. I'm sure it's beefy, strong, and resists wear, but I guess I was expecting a bulletproof vest to come reeling out of the case.* Device is surprisingly bigger than I thought. I know it's my bad, but when I glanced at the picture, my brain told me it's about the size of one of those ID badge reels, just a tad bigger. But looking at it again, and comparing it to the Garmin device hanging from it and the size of the jacket's zipper, my brain can see how big it actually is.Okay, so those are lame "Cons", but I guess my expectations were too high.Note: The one I have doesn't have the cord lock, so I can't really say anything to that. Amazon indicates that I bought this item however, so maybe the listing was changed after I ordered it.

Great customer service, good product
Update 12-6-2018: I've had this item for over 4 years now and it's still going strong! Other than the initial problem, nothing else has gone wrong with this. The cord is still in great shape, all the plastic components are unbroken, the tension is still great, it reels in just fine. I use this every work day. If something ever happens to this one, I'll be getting another. In fact, I might just order another one anyway, just in case it breaks in 10 years.-------------------Prior to purchasing this I had my work keys on a cheap carabiner, and would detach them from my belt loop each time I'd need them, which was very often during the work day.I chose the model with the belt clip as opposed to the style with the small carabiner, since it's much easier to remove this style than the other if needed.I like the quick-release end. But, it's difficult to release, requiring a lot of pressure in just the right spot. It doesn't seem like the plastic will take a lot of releasing and re-attaching with the kind of pressure required to release. So I removed one star.Overall the item is easy to use, isn't noisy when pulling the cord out, as others have mentioned (maybe the manufacturer made a change). And since the cord is kevlar, maybe it will stop a bullet for me some day ;)Recommended.Update 03-31-15: A major flaw with this design keeps rearing its ugly head. The small braided metal loop where the keys are held starts to come apart after about three months. It happened the first time in late December 2014, and T-Reign sent me a replacement at no charge. Now it's happening again. It's nice that they sent me a replacement the first time, but I don't think they're going to do that forever. I emailed them again to see if they'll respond, but I'm going to look for another style of retractable keychain. This one isn't cutting it.Update 04-10-15: The T-Reign folks have come through for me. They sent me a replacement, and an alternative replacement for the part that keeps wearing. So instead of the braided metal loop that starts coming apart after a couple months, they sent an alternative with a split ring (which I didn't know was an option). I actually removed the split ring and added a small S carabiner so I can add and remove keys easily. so I'm very happy with the replacement. I've upped my review to 4 stars, I can't in good conscience give 5 stars due to the flaw in the initial design. But I give 5 stars for customer service.
