Gorgeous, just what I was looking for
As I'm approaching 67 in a few days, I'm really excited that I bought this book. I've been making beaded jewelry for at least a decade now and I wanted to add beaded embroidery to my repertoire of techniques. I'm not too old to learn new tricks, but I'm finally retired so I can spend time learning something I've wanted to for a long time. So about a month ago I decided to learn beaded embroidery. Sure, there are plenty of helpful videos online, but I enjoy looking at a book instead of rewinding and replaying a video to make sure I understand the instructions. This book has beautifully crisp, clean and colorful pictures of the projects and of the how-to steps. The projects and the photos are very inspiring. I'm anxious to get started on projects of my own based on the amazing inspiration I'll glean from this book.

Definite Eye Candy!
Beautiful book. Very clear instruction. Lots to ponder. What I liked best about the book (besides the eye candy, that is) is the formatting. Each section walks you through one of four styles of embroidery--traditional, silk ribbon, raised and textured embroidery, and bead embroidery. There is some focus on materials and design and color choices--all presented in an appropriate level of detail for someone new to needle crafts (maybe a bit elementary for a seasoned stitcher). Basic, clear stitch tutorials (check out the buttonhole stitch heart!). Finally, the projects. All very beautiful...but...not sure I would make any of them. Not really my 'style.' If you like the look of crazy quilting, you'll love the projects. Still, the stitches and the techniques that are taught throughout the book can be used in other ways. Now to just get started :)

Its good. Ive read through it once but have not ...
I purchase this book as an ebook so its on my tablet. Its good. Ive read through it once but have not referred back to it. It has photo tutorials on the stitches to create, e.g. a photo then explanation then photo then explanation etc. It has quite a variety of different stitches to create different flowers and leaves. It has projects for different things to make. But the colours listed you would have to work out for yourself because it doesn't say a particular brand and colour, which is not a bad thing because then you can go pick the brand and colours of your choice. It says e.g. Colour A light pink, Colour B medium pink, Colour C Shell pink, Colour D Lilac and so forth. If you want to make something out of this book and your a beginner Id recommend getting the book in print so you can use the templates with more ease.

Great book! But!!!
I love Christen. I have her first book, which is great. Plus I've taken online classes with her, which were great. But where this book falls down is that there is NO "Table of Contents" and NO "Index" at the end. Which makes it a very inconvenient reference book! It's impossible to find anything without going thru the whole book! I love e-books and this is not the first time I have found this problem. FYI- Jane Davis - Bead Embroidery has the same problem.

This book makes me so happy
I have taken a couple of classes from Christen Brown on line and though her classes are very thorough, I always wanted more - and here it is - beautifully detailed photos of stitches, patterns and instructions for some fun and DOABLE projects and beautifully photographed samples of some finished projects. Often I find books to be either too basic or advanced but without clear enough instructions to replicate them. This book offers instruction for making your projects as simple or as complex as your little heart desires including the addition of beads, sequins and ribbons to your embroidery. This book is awesome! Thanks Christen for writing the book I always wanted.

My favourite book
This is an inspirational book. It covers four different techniques: traditional, silk ribbon, raised and textured, and beadwork. The book is bursting with colourful illustrations showing how to use these techniques. There are beautiful pictures of items that have been embellished such as bags, pillows, purses, needle cases and wall hangings. The stitches are very well illustrated and there is comprehensive information on materials, finishing, everything you need to know. What I like particularly is the way stitches that I have used in a very boring way in the past are used in new combinations of colour and texture which transformed them almost beyond recognition. This book offers exciting projects but also inspiration to have a go at producing your own designs.
