The Watercolorist's Essential Notebook

You won't Need any other book about Watercolor
This book has it all. Being an artist in watercolor and oils for the last 30 years as well as teaching, I wanted to do some research before teaching another class. Working on my art degree, the professors didn't impart a lot of details concerning the attributes of watercolor. There was some but it was mostly doing. I wanted to research more information and found this book as well as the authors website. lIt has tons f information as well as info on different materials used. I would recommend this book to anyone starting out as well as someone like me. Great book!

Great reference and lesson book.
Checked this book out at my local library and decided to buy it. It will be a good reference fo me. Somewhat overwhelming at first but give it a read through then go back and try the lessons. The sections on paints and brushes is especially useful. I bought some inexpensive brushes & tubes of paint to practise with and quickly learned from this book why I needed better paints & brushes! Got better supplies & gave the others to my 5 year old granddaughter who can now paint "just like Grams"! Were both happy campers! Actually the whole book is proving useful as I work thru it.

Awesome book for beginners and experts
This is a great book. I am just starting to expand my mediums and thought I would try my hand at watercoloring. This author explains everything in very simple terms so that the beginner like me can understand it. There are also exercises in the book that you can do and use to practice brush techniques. I really like this part because other books try to explain brush strokes and don't exactly show you what they mean. I plan to this book as a beginner learning tool and as I get better I will use it as a reference book.

THE best!
As a fairly new watercolorist, I have purchased many, many books on the subject in an attempt to gain skills, learn techniques, expand my thinking, etc., etc. Some of those books have been helpful, but usually only a page or two of a 60-page book was exactly what I was looking for. In other words, I was disappointed! Long introduction to say that THIS watercolor book exceeded all my expectations! I am oh so happy with it; I will probably use information on every page of this one. The techniques and skills introduced are interesting and fairly easy to execute; the author provides abundant details all along the way. The book has answered so many of my questions about producing sparkling water, distant trees, various types of skies, clouds, fog, using color schemes effectively, and the technique of "fading out" (which I love). And much, much, much more. It is well worth every penny and then some.

This is the best watercolor book I have read
This book is full of wonderful information for the watercolorist. I am an adult beginner and don't expect to ever have the talent to paint for anyone except myself, but the information in this book makes me feel that at least I know a little more about what I am doing. There are many easy to read charts about paint qualites, lists of reliable pigments to look for and pigments to avoid. (I didn't know paints were made of different names and numbers, and some of these are not stable colors!) Scan the Table of Contents and you will see all the great topics that are covered (and they are covered well). This is a beautiful book to read just to look at the lovely examples of his paintings. I am really glad that I purchased this book.

Gets You Started and Keeps You Going
Let's just say calling me an amateur would be an understatement. I bought this book in high hopes of entering the world of watercolor. It hit the nail right on the head. The text is informative and precise without being overwhelming. Enough different information and very comprehensive. Although perhaps lacking in the texture/details department. Overall the best of the 3 other books I bought. This one may be the best beginner to intermediate book out there! The only drawback was the fact it doesn't say in the description that it is for tube watercolors, as I want to use pans...but still I think most techniques will work either way.

Watercolorists Essential Notebook
Had read this from the library. Not a newly published book, but probably one of the clearest and most helpful books I had read. Suitable for both beginner and experienced artists. A great deal of good quality guidance.

A very helpful book
I bought it because I'm never tired of buying encouraging guidebooks about watercolour. Such a difficult and yet promising medium! It fulfilled most prospects. Depending on each individual needs though, it needs to be supplemented by some other of the author's manuals.

Excellent tips
Less overlap with the Landscape version than I had expected. Good for dipping into and getting ideas to experiment with
