Watson on the Orient Express
ItisIt is nice to read of Watson and his own adventure as told by himself. These books continue to intrigue and as with the originals I tend to re-read the stories.

A good Victorian Holmesian mystery with well developed characters.
Over the past several years, there has been a growing number of novels dealing with Sherlock Holmes and another person ~ often a female. I have read many Sherlock pastiches with a daughter; the Sherlock & Lucy James books by Anna Elliott & Charles Veley rank high along Goldberg's Daughter of Sherlock Holmes series. (Real Holmesian excellence is found in Laura Kingās Russell and Holmes series and the Anna Kronberg Thrillers by German author Annelie Wendeberg.) The eighth entry in the series āWatson on the Orient Expressā continues the quality of these enjoyable Victorina mysteries with a strong female lead.āWatson on the Orient Expressā opens in London, 1898. Held captive by a diabolical criminal mastermind and his gang of thugs, Watson overhears an assassination plot that not only endangers the life of Sherlock Holmes, but threatens to ignite a war. Watson escapes and follows a gang member aboard the trains. Success seems uncertain as the enemy looks to thwart their heroic efforts at every turn.I enjoy a character driven book, and these characters are well developed. Once more, they have evolved and grown over time in the series. The plot is well paced, moving smoothly from start to finish. There are plenty of twist and turns to keep the āhome detectiveā turning pages in anticipation of what was to come. The story is split into two timelines: (1) Watson escaping his kidnappers and then racing to Constantinople to try and stop an assassination, and (2) with Holmes and his daughter Lucy try to find Watson and save him. This book and series are certainly a fun read. They are nicely crafted and have characters about whom the reader cares. The series is recommended to those mystery readers of the Victorian era!

Enjoyable, Exciting Read!
This is the first book I've read in the series and was pleased with it, as the familiar style of Sherlock Homes came through. An exciting read with plenty of mystery and intrigue. The characters were well-developed and I enjoyed the constant chase of Holmes and Watson.I look forward to reading the next one.

per usual. exciting and nailbiting, with a few grammatical errors.
In general excellent writing, but a few grammatical errors were annoying. Amazingly detailed and realistic. Have enjoyed reading the series by these two wonderful writers.

Nice light read for SH fans
This was the first book of this series that I read so Iām not sure if thereās context Iām missing. But while I did enjoy the plot very much, I found Lucyās character a little close to being a Mary Sue. I suppose thatās the risk of trying to come up with a character capable of keeping up with Sherlock Holmes; I donāt think it was meant to be.That said, Iāll be going back to this series.

Excellent continuation of the series
A few nice twist and turns. Quite an interesting read. I just wish there was a picture of Watson without his mustache.

not quite Holmes, but very close
Ok, right off the bat letās all agree that these books about Holmes and Lucy James arenāt really true Holmes books. And to that I say, SO WHAT. If you just read these stories as really well written period fiction I can almost promise youāll enjoy them. There is more charactersā development involved in these stories and I for one enjoy that. Characters are a great way for an author to get readers involved in a way that makes them want to read the next book. The Holmes portion of the stories is actually pretty close to the Holmes we all know and love even if a little softer. That is easily explained away and for my part at least expected as we find Holmes in a more family type situation. Thatās all Iāll say about that to keep from revealing any plot points. Bottom line, these are very well written books about very well developed characters, one of whom happens to be a Victorian era detective with government ties and a shocking intellect named Sherlock Holmes.

A fun read
These books are not in depth or particularly skilled, but they are designed to entertain and keep you wanting to read on. They do just that and I really enjoy the simplicity of them. I think they make a great bedtime read or a holiday indulgence. I really enjoy the whole series.
