Do not buy!!!!!
I gave it a one only because I could not give it a zero. This broke on the third oyster. My son is a chef and was purchased as a gift for him. He said the blade is not thick enough to shuck oysters. Save your money and do not buy this one!!!!

Excellent set
My husband loves his new oyster cracking kit!! Gloves are well made and comfortable. He got the XL as he has larger hands. The knife is a good quality knife, very sturdy. Now just bring on the oysters!!!!

Blade issue
Ordered the knife as a present for my daughter, who had a cheaper plastic handle knife. First time used the blade tip bent. The blade is smaller and thinner than the cheaper knife, so I don't know if that's the issue. Nice looking tool, looked good, felt good, just failed on first try. Too expensive to not return.*** Important update : Melocean customer service contacted me immediately and explained the reason for the tip failure. This knife should not be used on hinges, as stated in the instructions. We discussed a possible remedy for this misunderstanding, and they are sending a replacement knife at their expense. Excellent job of follow up on their part.

Shucking oysters made comfortable
I’m a novice when it comes to shucking oysters. These gloves and knife made shucking comfortable and safe.

Worthless for "Hinge" Shucking!
Way too thin... I bent the tip on my second oyster (see pic). I've shucked thousands of oysters and this knife is worthless! While I always try to shuck oysters so that a slip won't hit my hands, PLEASE use the gloves because a slip with this pointy thin and reasonably sharp knife will cause some serious hurt!! I'm going to return it and try to get a refund in spite of the damage to the blade...UPDATE: I was contacted by Melocean customer service a day and a half after posting my one-star review, so in fairness to them, I decided to post this update. Basically, they feel the blade bent because I shucked the oyster trying to pry open the hinge, which is correct and the way I've done it for years. According to them, their knife is popular in France and the way to use it is to use the knife to separate the sides (see pic I added of their product use guide). They offered to send me a replacement knife, but I don't like the idea of aiming a sharp knife at my hand in spite of the glove - the "hinge" method I was taught and use allows you to hold the oyster with the hinge away from your hand so that a slip doesn't hit anything (usually). So, if you shuck at the hinge like I do, don't get this knife (especially for fresh Gulf Coast oysters that can be hard to "pop") and instead get something heavy duty, like a made-in-USA Dexter "New Haven" knife. I do give Melocean customer service 5 stars for their efforts, but my Malocean knife is going back to Amazon for a refund.
