I filter tap water through a Brita pitcher filter, then boiled the water and let cool to about 60 degree Celcius before pouring into the mold and put it into thr freezer.

Overall this seemed like a pretty simple product to use, much better than others that I have tried. I got consistently clear ice with no issues.My one complaint is that I wish the spheres were 2.5" instead of 2". I posted a picture with a Tovolo 2.5" sphere on the left and the 2" Dexas sphere on the right. I feel like the 2.5" fits better in a standard rocks glass.

This does produce very clear ice balls. They are small, 2 fit in a standard rocks glass. The issue I have is that after being washed twice, I still have an oily residue that appears in my drink when using. I've used silicone mold before and never had this happen. The unit is large for the output. Filing the molds is cumbersome as the water will overflow while filling, or you need to add more to the mold to get full iceballs. The rendering ice, under the molds is simply wasted because of the design of the base. If the container was smooth, then the leftover ice cold be used in the mixing of the cocktail. Again, the biggest issue is the oily residue inside the drink.

The overall product is a little large so make sure you prepare a place for it before filling it with water. Once frozen, the round ice balls are just beautiful--well worth the effort to make! Even the not pretty "waste" ice on the bottom is nice for regular drinks. I only use the balls on my Old Fashioned cocktails and some cask-strength whiskey. First class!

The ice is great. The only thing is that in actual use it looks a lot less interesting that I expected. In a tall drink it kind of disappears, as it does in clearer ones. It looks great with dark drinks when about half of it sticks out, but that's it. Anyway, that has nothing to do with the quality of the product itself, which is very good.
