Will this hold up if it’s used outside?

It is sturdy but I definitely wouldn’t leave it outside. I might take it out to play with on a blanket, but it’s not made to be an outdoor toy.

Would mailbox fit standard birthday cards?

No, it would fit but, I don’t it would close properly.

I need 2 gifts. Would this be best for a 1.5yr old or 3 yr old?

It would be suitable for either, although if I had to choose, I would say three year old. We got it for my son when he turned two, and he’s still playing with it 15 months later. His about-to-turn-6 year old sister will play with it too. If the 1-1/2 year old likes to mouth small items, I would stay away though. We didn’t have that problem with our son, but the stamps and matching pieces could fit in a toddler’s mouth.
