space opera at it's best.
Classic Bujold, classic Miles Vorkosigan! For those unfamiliar with the series, space opera at it's best.

Book number six of a sixteen book space opera series
Book number six of a sixteen book space opera series. However, some people call this a military science fiction series. There are several other books and short stories in the Vorkosigan Universe. This series won the Hugo and Nebula awards for best series in 2017. Also, several of the individual books in the series have either won awards or been nominated for awards. I have read this book several times as it is one of my favorite books. I reread the well printed and well bound used MMPB published by Baen in 1990 that I just rebought on Amazon. I paid $6 for the used MMPB on Amazon and the next one is $11. There is also a hardback from NESFA Press for $26. I have rebought the rest of the books in the series in various formats, mostly MMPB.Miles Vorkosigan, son of Aral Vorkosigan and Cordelia Naismith, has graduated from the Barrarayan Imperial Academy. So, at the top of his class, he is assigned to be the weatherman for an infantry base in the polar region. And things go downhill from there.BTW, this is a six star book for me.

Bujold is a little known gem
This is a sequel to the Warriors Apprentice, but it has the ability to stand on its own. Space opera at its best. Bujold writes a clever plot with excellent comic timing. This isnt slap stick though. She has a great, page turning, mystery embeded in between the covers. This book also sets the tone for some of her later books and provides an answer to some of Miles' later hang ups. Bujold's first books were published as paperbacks and I read them to shreds and am gradually replacing them with hard backs. The only thing i don't like about it is the new cover art. The old art by Alan Gutierrez Captured Bujold's humorous Space opera style. The new artists Brown and Lewis make it too stilted and ridgidly Sci Fi. If I had first seen this cover with out knowing the story I would not have even picked it up. But if you are reding the review and are considering buying this book, I feel positive you will enjoy it.

Light yet engrossing
Most of the Miles V saga books are great fun, and this one is too. The Who Dunnit part is well done and Emperor Gregor comes off as thoroughly charming if a bit dense after running away from being royal.
