TV Without Cable: Your Complete Guide to Streaming TV & Over-the-Air Free TV

This small but mighty book changed our entertainment life and is saving us about $100 each month since we followed the general guidelines presented by the author by buying a decent OTA indoor antenna (from Amazon) and, with our Amazon Prime membership include a Fire TV Stick with remote control and a Chromecast for our second TV. After hooking up the OTA antenna and running an automatic channel scan we came up with 193 channels available in our SoCal area. The Amazon Fire TV stick with remote control and Chromecast controlled by an Android app provide all the entertainment we need after terminating our DirecTV subscription saving us over $100 every month. If you're in an area where there are plenty of OTA free digital channels (and they are HD), this could be a money-saving option for you. Get the book and find out more about it.

...This statement hopefully indicates what I got out of it.- I'm a newbie to tech. (& hate it!) So, what I would have liked was a specific instruction book...AS EXAMPLE:- Here's whats available.- Here's how you choose.- Here's what you do, &/or need to accomplish this......In all fairness, that's probably to much to ask or expect.1st part, explained streaming & 3 ways to access. ...good!Next, the various services available. Here, things started to get a little cloudier, as example; '…no ads - except if/when...'.My biggest Question (that surely showcases my total lack of anything technical) is: HOW do I fulfill the main requirement for hi-speed dsl? Do any of the streaming services provide them? ...or, do I need - as I suspect, a 'different' service?? ..&,which is best, where to look & how to determine which one??

After reading this great book, I am ready to break away from Cable and STREAM to my hearts content !Book separated each individual component and explained in great detail the pros & cons !I appreciated the plain English writing style, and people of all levels of "Technology" should be able to make a Streaming plan.Thanks James Eldredge !Can't wait till I walk into the cable office and say CANCEL MY ACCOUNT !

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in an option to cable TV. Being a novice when it comes to streaming, I couldn't have asked for a clearer, more comprehensive and informative book to learn about this option. This book also deals with the pros and cons of different choices you have in this area. Very worthwhile reading.

A good guide for a newbie techie. It can get you up to speed very quickly. Some of the information in this volume is already out-of-day, but I'm sure Mr. Eldredge has more current information (which is presented in concise, easy-to-understand prose) with follow-up information in chapters. Best booklet I've read on the cable-game. Arrrrrrgh those companies. I'm already on the path of creating my own low-cost entertainment viewing universe.

Cable cutters learn about 'over the air TV' very quickly and the book does not expand much beyond some antenna choices. The book has many good suggestions on how to get a large variety of programming over WiFi, both fee and free. The BIG PROBLEM is the most important necessity to get all and any of these is a low cost WiFi providers where the pickings are very slim and definitely makes the book NOT a complete guide.

Mr Eldredge did an excellent job in researching and composing this book. He verified the information I had before starting this book and took me well above and beyond my current knowledge. A must read for those looking for options other than cable for their entertainment.

If your cable TV bill is near or over $125 each month, this book will show you how to save a lot of money. You will have to keep your high speed internet connection, but that's about all. The book is for beginners or pros and is well written and very easy for all levels to understand. Several very helpful links are included. I will recommend to my friends.

I had no knowledge on the Streaming process and Mr. Eldredge seems to be elaborating more. We are indeed going through the times when more knowledge to be tapped into variety of areas of Home Essentials.
