Excellent German bake goods
Really enjoy my new cook book addition. Easy to use and follow recipes. Great break down of preparation and baking time frames. I really like how each recipe is broken down in stages. Below is Apple cake that I baked which is on page 26 with a photo on page 27. I really like the structure of how the recipes are laid out. Recipe ingredients are listed to the side in groups under headings such as. For the topping; than amount and type of ingredient. For the sponge: list of ingredients and amounts For the apricot glaze: etc. Below the ingredients list side is a per piece break down of fat and sodium and sugars etc list. I have baked several items from this book so far and I am pleased. I do have a caution recommendation, some of the items listed in the required ingredients are very hard to find where I live.

My Favorite Baking Book
I was recommended this book by my German aunt after I had asked her for a specific apple cake recipe she used. She showed me this book that her recipe came from, and in searching for the original cookbook, I happened to come across it in English! Every recipe so far has turned out wonderful. The instructions are clear, converted into US measurements and temperatures, and many of them give variations for options to switch up the recipe (prefer a crumb topping or different fruit? So many variations!). I highly recommend this book to anyone who has looked for authentic German baking recipes - it's quickly become my favorite go-to dessert book.

I live in Canada and am German. So often I am asked for my recipes. The translate of recipes is a time consuming affair. Since I've discovered that you can buy Dr. Oekter recipe books in the English language, I am very happy .. It is always a gift for good friends Schoen: Dr. Oetker is a guarantee of good, traditional and proven recipes.

Just like home if not better
This is amazing. I am German living in America and started missing baked goods from home. I never learned baking and consider myself an amateur at most. I have used this cookbook more than any other since buying last year. I've made Christmas cookies, bread, cakes (Apple and bundt) and it's been amazing. I found the baking times, the measurements etc to be very reliable. Sometimes I change certain things up (more seeds in the bread or extra lemon zest in cakes) but that's more creative freedom than anything. Lastly it's authentic and I get what I'm missing from home anytime I wish to with ingredients I can get anywhere.

Beautiful detailed book
Such a nice book full of great photos and information. Busy trying to find a day I can cook and cook and cook . If half the recipes are as good as they look I will be the queen of the kitchen. Now I did order vanilla sugar and received it in just a few days. Had no Idea where to find it in Oklahoma.

Terrible translation, measures conversion pretty useless!
This book was translated by somebody whose native language is not English (always a bad idea!). I lived in Germany for the first 20 years of my life, and have been living in the US for several decades hence. I was amused by the term "sharp apples". They probably meant "crisp", or "tart" (this is just one example of poor translation skills).Furthermore, who ever translated, or ordered the measures to be translated accurately, can't possible have been a cook. I have never in my many decades of living in the USA come across a recipe that calls for 7/8 cup milk. Yes, that's in the same recipe as the "sharp" apples.Dr Oetker, please do us a favor. Overhaul the translation. Then either convert the measures into something user-friendly, (7/8 of a cup is just not do-able) or ask your readers to invest in a kitchen scale and leave the recipe in metric measures. (You can get a digital scale for as little as $10 here on amazon.com).The formatting leaves a lot to be desired as well. In that same recipe, ingredients are listed one item per line... except for the last line. There are 2 items listed on one line... and I promptly left one of them out.This is not a cook book for people who don't know any German, nor is it appropriate for new cooks. There's just too much guess work involved here!

This is a nicely printed book with lots of interesting recipes
This is a nicely printed book with lots of interesting recipes. Initially I bought a copy of this book and 'German Cooking Today' for someone else for Christmas but when I had a look at it, I ordered an extra copy for myself. There are all kinds of cakes and biscuits in the book and the recipes in the book vary from the very simple to the complicated. There is one in there for a cake built up of multiple layers of cake mixture that is quickly cooked under a grill that I recognise as having been in the finals of this years 'Bake Off' on television! Most of the recipes though are straight forward and will enable anyone to cook 'homely' cakes or perhaps have a go at something a bit more sophisticated (definitely in the 'homely' camp myself).

El recetario es muy completo , no se trata solo de pasteleria alemana , tiene de todo , recetas basicas muy bien explicadas y un a amplia seleccion ,imprescindible como libro de referencia para cocineros noveles o para gente que dno quiere acumular muchos libros de recetas y quiere las basicas .

Prima Gastgeschenk
Ich brauchte ein paar "deutsche" Gastgeschenke für Neuseeland und Australien. Dieses Backbuch ist voll von tollen Rezepten, die Bilder und Anleitungen sind gut gestaltet und sehr ansprechend. Damit kann man mal zeigen was für Leckereien es in Deutschland gibt. Ich war heilfroh bei Amazon dieses Buch bzw. Bücher (Kochbuch habe ich auch gekauft) so unkompliziert und vor allem in Englisch zu bekommen. Ich bin mir sicher es wird bei den Kiwis und Aussie ein Erfolg werden. Cheers.
