Not the same box...
This performs as advertised, but how it arrived initially concerned me. It comes in a much smaller box compared to the one pictured; it's just not the same box and certainly not the same size. From the reviews I have seen online, for this very item, describes specifically as the "essential" package, it appears that others are receiving a much larger stenciling / template book which came in a larger box. This does in fact come with a stenciling/template book, but much smaller than expected. Otherwise, it performs just as advertised: terrific. I recommend that along with your initial purchase that you get additional refills as a single stick runs out a whole lot faster than I though it would. Just the first hour, my 5 year old had already almost finished one of the two included bags. By the way, although this is designed as a cordless, it is suppose to work while charging-- but we are not able to do that. For whatever reason, it just stays on charging mode when pluged in. We are using a 6' micro USB cable hooked up to a Samsung "Fast Charger" brick. A full charge took us less than 30 minutes, and after about 30 minutes of cordless use-- we figured we would try using it while pluged in. It won't do it and I don't know why. It's not a big deal to us being that my daughter is still just learning and that it has a short charging time (approximately 30 minutes, again, using a Samsung Fast Charger brick). Lastly, I know the box says for "8+" year olds, but it's easy and safe enough, I would imagine, for all the other 4 to 5 year olds out there. Enjoy.

An unexpected Hit!
we have a lot of arts and craft supplies in our house and I had concerns that this would just go into the bin and be forgotten about. But it has captivated my 7 year old son''s attention.I like that it doesn't get hot enough to burn anyone (I can put my finger under the nib and it is fine. Here are the drawbacks:The replacement sticks are expensive and can get used up very quickly especially since we sometimes prefer to work with a particular color. It can be messy - definitely can require follow up with a vacuum or broom. Nothing gets melted into anything else however. The included USB charging cord is about 10 inches long if that and there is no plug included. I would appreciate a longer cord so I can place it up on a shelf or desk instead of dangling from the outlet or resin on a shoebox in front of the outlet.

Be prepared to buy more filaments
Seems to work as advertised. However, the supplied "free" filaments are not nearly enough. The template book gives you a guide as to how many filaments of each color you will need to complete the project, but seems to be way off and typical projects took at least twice as many filaments for the project to appear anywhere close to the images. I purchased additional filaments at almost the same cost as the set. When ordering refills be sure you order filament for the STARTER model, since other model filaments will not work. My grandson has used this several times and he seems to enjoy it. It does have a back-out feature, but that only seems to work if the unused filament is still relatively long. If you have a short piece remaining in the pen and want to change colors, you have to run the old color out if you cant back it out, which results in waste. A variable pressure switch that determines the speed of the feed would have been nice, and may be available on more expensive models, don't really know. Of course the user can control the speed at which he/she moves the pen along to "build-up" thicker strands. Overall, it is a decent kit for starting out, but as the name implies, it IS a STARTER kit. And again, be prepared to buy additional filaments a the supplied filaments only allow a very few projects to be completed before you run out.

a fun to use toy
Overall, a fun to use toy. My nine year old is able to easily use the device, although the thickness of it isn't really child friendly. The battery seems to last quite a long time, but it really eats up the resin sticks so you may want to order more up front. Also, it is counter-intuitive to try to bring a string of melted plastic vertical in the fact that you think there is no way it will hold, but it absolutely will. Note that you will need to hold the strand vertical, then I blew on it to cool the resin. Once it cools a bit it is very sturdy. You can even drag the string of resin horizontally between items and if you keep it taught, it will cool that way.I would, however, like to see a child create some of the stuff on the box without throwing it into the street, so don't expect them to easily create these unless they are 10+

Amazing Tool
Bought this as a 'test' version to see if it would work well in my school for students to use. I've had my 5 & 13 year old trying it out and we are all thrilled with it.The tip does not get hot enough to burn - you can feel it is slightly warm if you touch the sides - and the plastic coming out stays malleable long enough to be shaped/tweaked to how you want it to appear. This kit has everything you need to get started and the accompanying book has a variety of 3-D builds you can start with that would appeal to most everyone. This is definitely a great gift for those who like to build and create!

Did not work at all on Christmas morning!!!!
My son is really into architecture and we were looking forward to giving him this 3D pen. I read thru different reviews and since this one was the most child friendly, I ordered it as a Santa present. So happy when opened, but it didn't work at all. Not even once!! The wax fed into the pen but nothing came out. My husband scoured YouTube looking for videos of how to fix it, but with no success. What a stinker of a Christmas present. Sending it back with visions of my VERY disappointed 8 year old son!!
