Sharp edge, so watch your fingers! Works well though.
Works well, and it way sharper than I expected. After being attached to a log for a couple of wet months now (with the cap on the blade) it has not rusted at all yet. This style log spitter seems hard to come by now, but I like the heft and weight of this one.

Works decently on seasoned, straight grained, small diameter stuff
It's just a wedge that you bolt down so wood needs to be something that could easily be split with a wedge anyway. It's got very aggressive steep bevels coming off just below the cutting edge so, in reality, more difficult to get something to split than a normal sledge and wedge, which most wedge designs are a steady taper at that point instead of changing to a steep bevel. If the wood is seasoned, straight grain, and small enough in diameter, it'll split neat as you please. If any of those factors are off, it won't work. Even if you get such wood started, the steep bevels will just kick it back and it won't go any further. The operation is two handed. You must steady/secure the wood with one hand, while you pound it with a baby sledge with the other.I only tried it on some junk wood (sycamore, redbud, etc) as I didn't have any small enough oak or hickory to try it on. I'm sure this wedge would split seasoned, straight grained white oak, but how big a diameter or wedge size you could go I'm not sure.It comes with a pretty sharp, hand grinded edge and a plastic cover to cover it. I don't think you're going to cut yourself on this but if you ever fell on it, bolted down securely, you could be in a lot of trouble, so I'm keeping the cover on it in my somewhat crowed shed.I'll be using this on snowy days to split up some of the smaller stuff inside the shed. For the bigger stuff I'll continue to use the log splitter.

Got some wood to split? You need this!!!!
Wow - What a quality, heavy duty piece of metal this is! This splitting wedge is very heavy duty and can take a licking when it comes to splitting wood. I have used mine a couple of times as I was cutting up a huge limb that fell off my tulip poplar tree in my back yard. I was taking this to logs that were up to 12 inches in diameter and this thing just powered through that when I hit it with my sledgehammer like it was nothing. I am highly impressed by this splitting wedge and am so glad I found it because I have a heck of a lot more cutting and splitting to do in the coming months. If you are looking at getting this, believe me - you won’t regret it if you do! This wedge is well-cast and solid as heck. It makes splitting wood a breeze and almost fun! Well, short of splitting it with a hydraulic log splitter, anyway! It is nicely priced for the part and I may just get another to have in my truck just for having it handy when I am out in the fields near my home. Yeah, it’s that awesome!

Wood Splitting Wedge
I think this wedge should have a larger base for more stability. The splitting edge is very sharp, which is great. The included screws for mounting this wedge are pretty wimpy, considering the force the wedge will endure. I'll use some heavy lag bolts to install this wedge. I don't see any reason that the wedge itself won't stand up to splitting wood for a long time to come.I may have the wedge welded into an old vehicle wheel to provide the stability and safety that I want when splitting firewood.

Clutch for cutting up wood
This is awesome for casual wood chopping. I just took it on my most recent camping trip this past weekend. It's very sharp and was easy to use. I was able to cut some small logs into kindling in no time. This is small and fits easily into my camping kit. It's well designed and good quality. It seems like it'll be durable enough to last for a while. It does a great job. I'd recommend it.

Well constructed, sturdy, effective
This is a great log splitter in my opinion. It seems well constructed and works well. I suspect it will last a long time and provide multuple years of use.

Excellent for making kindling, not so much for splitting logs
The media could not be loaded. Now to be fair this device is called a Wood Splitter Manual Kindling Splitter "Portable Log Splitter". It’s that last part I have a bit of trouble with. If you follow the instructions the recommendation is that you use the included bolts to attach the splitter to a log, place the wood to be split on top of the blade and using a small sledge hammer, (Not Included) hit the wood until it drives it down on the wedge and splits the wood, (see video). I got this because it states that it is a “portable log splitter” and the instructions say not to use a hammer on the splitter itself. I had looked into renting a powered log splitter, but my gates are two narrow to get it into the backyard without taking down part of the fence. Now I don’t know about you, but I have some very heavy oak logs that I want to split and the idea of picking them up, slamming them down on the blade of this splitter and then beating on the log until it splits sounds like a lot more work and somewhat more dangerous than using an axe or a maul. That being said for making kindling it works great, but not so much for logs. It comes with the splitter. a blade cover, the blade is greased to protect it from corrosion and it’s sharp, four screws for attaching it to a surface and the instruction manual. If your going to attach and detach it from a surface regularly I would recommend replacing the screws with lag bolts as the heads on these screws will eventually strip out. It’s made of cast iron and even though it’s nicely painted I recommend that you not leave it out in the weather to keep it from rusting. Personally, I intend to attached a heavy piece of steel to the base and use a small sledge hammer to drive the splitter into the logs I intend to split, but this is not according to the instructions and using it this way will probably void the warranty and might be dangerous. As with all tools be sure to wear proper safety gear when using.Takeaway: Recommended - For making kindling, not log splitting
