I just turn them off. The scratch pads work smoothly, but have just a little bit of 'bounce' when trying to cue up a track: You cue it to the exact spot you want, then when you remove your finger, it 'bounces back' a tiny bit. It's not significant, but if you were a pro it would be quite annoying. For the amateur, it's really not a problem. I wish the cross fader had a touch more resistance to it to make slower fades a bit smoother. But, again, for an amateur, it's really not a problem. This controller is fun to use, and if you are just beginning to DJ it's a great learning tool for a very low price.
