Q: Is there any unpleasing smell when you receive this tea box?

Yes, it does have a weird fake wood smell. Not sure if it’s going to go into the tea bags😒

Q: Does the metal mesh top have a clear glass or plastic acrylic to keep out dust or is it just the metal mesh?

My unit did not have mesh at all. A glass top is all it has. Biggest problem is the top opens all the way and you have to prop it up so it doesn't break against a counter or other surface.
