Exactly like Brazilian Heart of Palms
Have you been looking for those heart of palms that you ate at a Brazilian restaurant, or even in your last trip to Brazil?Your search is over!Even though these come from Peru, they are from the exact same palm tree of Brazilian heart of palms. This product is not mushy, tasteless, yellowish, and of a conical shape like those from Ecuador, Costa Rica, etc... that you find at grocery stores and discount clubs.Brazilian heart of palms have strong smell and taste and are acidic. Finding woody hearts is usual and this is done by Nature. But, these woody chunks can be sauteed, used in soups (check Emeril Lagasse's recipes), and in pies (add them to chicken pot pie). A little bit of cooking makes them very soft. Finally, Brazilian type heart of palms start changing colors as soon as the palm tree is cut. From white towards grayish/pinkish tones, which is accelerated in contact with air and aluminum cooking utensils. But the taste doesn't change at all.

Native Forest’s Hearts of Palm need to be consistent in flavor and quality.
There’s something very nasty about these Hearts of Palm. It has taken me a few months to let you know that this case was substandard. I bought a whole case because I have had great tasting Hearts of Palm. Inside the can, the palms are pink on the inside and the water is cloudy. This may be normal, but the taste is all wrong.

Great and also thru subscribe-n-save!
Living here in central Iowa, we don't have a lot of selection on hearts of palm - yea go figure huh? Lol. So we were so glad to find these available through subscribe-n-save at a significant savings over what we would spend buying a $5 can from the store. And they are great quality - that had certainly been my concern seeing the price, but these are just as good as any canned hearts of palm we've bought anywhere. We get a kick out of them being organic - we appreciate that, tho we'd probably buy them anyway. We have them pretty much nightly in our salads, and our 7-yr old loves having one as a treat - we've had him hooked since he was 3. :) We've been buying this brand thru Amazon for a couple years now, I can recommend it!

Really disappointed, they’ve changed (for the worse)
They’ve changed, and not in a good way. These have always been the best hearts of palm I could find, I’ve ordered them monthly for many years (they aren’t in stores where I live). Yes, cans have often arrived dented, and sometimes there are woody stalks or a can with an off color/texture in there (the dented ones have been fine, the “off” ones I’ve tossed out), but overall the flavor and texture have been heads above alternatives the vast majority of the time. HoP have been a favorite food of mine since I was a kid.In the last few months something has changed, either the sourcing or method of processing them. Now they’re like all the others in the store—overly pickled, fibrous, not great flavor, etc. The few times I’ve asked to return a bad batch, or contacted the company in the past about quality concerns, they’ve replaced or accepted my return for a refund. But now I’m told this item is no longer a returnable item. Perhaps because no one likes the new version and they’ve been overloaded with return requests? But really weird, since they are non-perishables. They should be returnable. But now that they’re not, I definitely don’t want to try buying more to see if they have gone back to the good ones, since I could be stuck with another bad batch. Really frustrating. Off to try and find another brand.

As good as any I ever had from a can!!!!!!!
I have only had one can so far but they were excellent. All were tender but not mushy. None were woody or pulpy. With the subscription plan I paid 2.55 per for the 12 can case.Much better than the local market and as I said excellent quality.UPDATE: I am now on my second case and these are still the best quality and price I've found.I finally found piece that had a woody outer skin - after peeling it off the rest was great. One woody skin on one stalk out of about 80 stalks is pretty amazing.

Some Cans Have Gone Off
I’ve had a couple of cans that were gassy and pressing up at the top. When I opened them, they sprayed. Really disappointing that there isn’t a way to make this right. These cane also have a lot of hard pieces, but I’ve come to accept this.

Lot of variability
I’ve had about 70 cans of this brand of hearts of palm over the last two years and I’ve noticed a lot of variability not only with the size but also the tenderness of the stocks. This last shipment in January 2025 had a sticker on the outside of the box saying it was a product of Columbia, but the individual can said Ecuador. The stocks were larger than usual only fitting four to a can, but the salinity was way less than I’m used to. It seems like they are missing some salt which since I’m a person who cans my own vegetables makes me wonder if it’s safe to eat. However, I said Yolo and ate it anyway because the stocks were tender, and I was hungry for those who don’t know the larger stocks are very soft and mushy, and the smaller stocks can have a nice bite or crunch or if you’re unlucky might be unpleasantly fibrous. The occasional stock that is fibrous and wood- like in texture is nearly inedible. I never ate hearts of palm before buying this brand because conventional hearts of palm are extremely bad for the environment and cause deforestation in impoverished tropical countries. I pay extra for this brand for this reason that it is hopefully true to this word with sustainability and fair wages. This is also the reason why I put up with the inconsistent quality.
