My 6 yr old loved it!!
I purchased this book to read to my son before bed. He loved it. My sons six so I wasn’t sure how well he would enjoy a chapter book. He was very entertained by the characters (especially the main character Marcus). He enjoyed the story and looked forward to me reading it every night. It’s great that he got to experience friendship, creativity, teamwork and learn about how movies are made. We look forward to reading part 2.

A good lesson for middle schoolers and a good reminder for adults.
This book is based upon the title character of Marcus. He’s been drawing his own comic of his self-created superhero - Toothpick and he is faced with the opportunity (along with the obstacles) to turn his Toothpick comic into a MOVIE. Marcus runs into one roadblock after another as he learns exactly what goes into making a movie (due in no small part to a film class for which he signed up). Marcus faces the emotional and physical tolls of making the movie while wanting to honor his deceased mother. The book is aimed at telling kids that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to doing. Hart, through the character of Marcus, shows that it’s OK to get upset when the obstacles seem insurmountable but, not to just wallow in misery. It’s also important to...figure it out. Marcus gets numerous lessons on HOW to figure it out. In doing so, he sends an important message to his target reading audience (which according to the publisher is Middle Grades 8 - 12). A few adults could benefit from the reminder as well. This one is definitely a SMASH!

That, Marcus makes you believe - that anything is possible. Just go out & latch onto your dreams!!!
I was so immersed in the plot. The story, makes the reader; believe they can achieve anything, if they put their mind to it. I myself am a writer. Author of ‘Tarak’s Dust of Desire’. Therefore - it was fantastic to swoop into Kevin’s world. Or, shall I say Marcus’? Lol.Nonetheless. Brilliant read & real fun for younger readers, as the illustrations are fantastic too.Five star review from me.Hats off to you Kev; keep inspiring King.
