Brilliant Transparencies of a Classical Monument.
Full page blown up transparencies of the temple layouts and idols of deities alike are immaculately captured are mindboggling, simply to say. But lots of uncovered empty spaces in wide format coffee table books is a phenomena inexcusable.Badami-Aihole-Pattadakal is one region most important in the study of Early Indian History in respect of classiacality of religion, architectural exclusivness and world famous classical inscriptions of high literary value in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Kannada. But we find only one miniscule photo of only one inscription in the whole of the book. Here in this province that we find the famous Sanskrit inscription reading : " Yam Shaivah Samupasyathe Shivethi, Brahmethi Vedanthinah... " which proclaimed the unification of all the branches of Hinduism prevailed in that era. Full page coverage of such inscriptions would have added much more to the integrity and wholesomness of the book. The photographer with such a brilliant workmanship, himself being a Bengalurean, ought to have been aware of these priorities.
