No, if you buy the gas shock that fits your door, they won't push the door open when you close it.

If your desk only uses 1 strut lift and requires less than 18lbs of lift then it’s fine. Anything more than 18lbs and you should expect to exert your own strength. These can be mounted in a wide variety of locations for your needs just keep in mind they have length limitations.
