A few weeks in, so far so good on Firestick, but read re: Plex & networking
Installed easily on my network (more on this below), seems to work ok-ish with the app for Amazon Firestick...but the app is sluggish. Also, their "DVR" option is some kind of vaguely described software that you install on your own network, recording to your own network storage, for a monthly fee. Basically this seemed to me what Plex is, except that Plex has proven longevity, support, community, etc.Basically, what you're going to want to do is use this with Plex. I have prior experience with Plex, but not as a DVR. You need to pay for a one-time lifetime Plex Pass, which is usually less than $100 with codes. That activates Plex's dvr capabilities. So you'll use the Firestick Plex app to either watch live tv with this, or watch recorded shows. I find myself using the browser-based plex interface to schedule shows, Plex provides the guide/schedule for your zip code. Frankly I think that without Plex the existing firestick app and dvr service would probably have made me return the device and try another route. As for networking, the box has ethernet port but no build-in wifi. I guess most people plug directly into their router. However, I happened to have a wifi extender around with an ethernet port, so it can bridge over wifi. I was concerned that maybe there would be a bandwidth issue, but on my network (5gig) it seems to be ok, ymmv. This allowed me to move the box and antenna to a window of the house that worked best for reception, instead of having to move my wifi router. I guess I can get away with this, but ideally you'd want to run cat5/6 from this thing directly to your router, and ideally your nas is also hard wired. That said, I'm doing fine with everything over wifi.As for transcoding, it seems like whatever is being sent to Plex does not need to be transcoded when viewed by the firestick, though the files seem a little large. I'd say if you plan on keeping many many shows, you'll want to learn how to transcode with Plex behind the scenes for smaller file sizes for long term.Otherwise, the tuner seems decent, seems about as sensitive as any built into a TV.I guess it's an advancement for OTA, but no holy grail. You still need Plex. I kinda wish Plex would get into the hardware business directly...

HDHomeRun EXTEND in my RV
The HDHomeRun EXTEND is my 3rd purchase of an HDHomeRun product (the previous being the original Duo and Tech units). I wanted to use this unit (the Extend) in my RV.I tested it while camping at a friends property south of Northfield, MN, located about an hours drive south of Minneapolis, MN. I have a directional amplified antenna atop my RV. I connected and tested it at night, when RF reception is typically better.I was once again quite impressed with the reception sensitivity and signal quality of yet another HDHomeRun product. It detected 31 television stations from the Twin Cities area, the direction I had the antenna pointed to. The TV transmission tower app I was using on my phone indicated the transmission antennas for these stations were 45-46 miles away. I was able to tune-in and view all of these stations without having to reorient the antenna (using a small dial on the ceiling inside the RV) with the exception of the St Paul PBS stations. On the following night I was quite surprised to also detect 4 PBS stations in the opposite direction in Mason City Iowa, just over 90 miles away. Impressive, considering the antenna was pointing in the opposite direction.During the day I do lose the signals from about 12-14 of those 31 stations, but that's typical during daylight hours with any RF receiver. For comparison purposes, the television sets that are factory installed in my RV (5 of them) at best detect and receive watchable signals from maybe 8 stations on a good evening. When I tested the HDHomeRun EXTEND unit, I used the same coax cable that was attached to the TV in the back bedroom (which was the longest cable run).BTW, I also have 2 Synology NAS installed in my RV, which are loaded with hundreds of movies and even more TV shows that I enjoy rewatching when it's raining out (Family Guy, Futurama, The Simpsons, Rick & Morty, etc.). I use the DLNA UPNP interface and VLC as my video software (on my PC, phone, tablet, and XBox One). I can now use VLC for watching TV too, now that DLNA is supported on the HDHomeRun EXTEND. This simplifies everything! The HD video signals from the 2 HDHR tuners stream through my Ubiquiti WiFi network without a glitch, even when a couple people are watching bluray quality movies from my NAS too. Glitch free and simple. Excellent.
