Q: Are these fully waterproof? As in, if the backside of the speaker is exposed to water, will it be okay?

Hello, The MR692B are not waterproof, they are weatherproof or water resistant, they can withstand the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely. Thank you!

The wattage rating on speakers are their CAPACITY... Like a milk jug has a 1 gallon capacity yet it might not be full... Wattage from the amp is what fills, at least to some degree the capacity of the speakers... Speakers don't "push" wattage, it's the amps job to do that... You can also "clip" ANY amp and damage/blow ANY speaker... Even just your factory system will damage/blow a speaker if you turn it up too high for an extended period of time... Clipping any amp has the potential to damage/blow any speaker... Just because your amp is rated at less wattage than your speaker is NO insurance that your speakers won't be damaged... Moderation, as in most things, is the key. Also give your "new" speakers ample time to "break in"... A low to moderate volume for a good 24-48 hours is required to "loosen" things up... Enjoy !!!

Q: Do i need a amp for these?

With Audio it all comes down to what YOU are happy with. Face it, the Marine Speaker choices we have are limited. We buy a marine speaker for its waterproof properties not the awesome sound we expect to receive. The cockpit of a boat is not the ideal sound enclosure with the combination of wind, engine and other noise competing with your tunes.I have not installed these yet, so my response is solely based upon the manufacturer's specifications. Some will be happy with the sound right off the stereo head unit and others will not.The Mfg. states "350 Watts MAX 175 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms". I could not find what the "Nominal" rating was on any site for these speakers. "Nominal wattage" is typically the minimum power (Watts) that is needed to drive the Voice Coil of a speaker to achieve decent sound, anything less will likely sound as if it were coming from a tin can. I assume with the given MAX and RMS ratings provided that the "Nominal" power rating will be around 50 watts/channel. Check the output of your Head unit, know that 50 Watts@ 4 Ohms is equivalent to 25 Watts @ 8 Ohms or 100 watts @ 2 Ohms. With that said... Watts RMS is the power that the speaker can drive continuously and Max is the Peak that the Speaker can handle. This all assume that you are driving clean amplified sound and not driving sound from a crappy amp @ 10% THD (Total Harmonic Distortion). You can easily blow a 350W MAX rated speaker if you run distorted sound though it at a lower power rating. I plan on driving four of these speakers with a Kenwood head unit preamped into a 4 channel Fosgate amp rated at 150Watts/channel RMS @ 4 Ohms at 0.01% THD. Without a Subwoofer, this should be enjoyable while cruising or at anchor. There are many other speakers that will outperform these but they are not waterproof nor are they less than $100/pair. I hope this helps.

Good sound, even better customer service

These speakers sounded great, but then the bass blew out after sitting under a boat cover over the winter. I contracted customer service and even though I hadn't purchased an extra warranty they were covered. I destroyed the broken ones and they shipped me out new ones without any hassle at all. Awesome customer service!

Bloody marvelous spaekers!!

I usually dont have the time tp do reviews but folks I installed these in an aftermarket fairing on a 2013 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad. Man!! The best investment of 60 bucks I've ever spent. I attached them to a JVC head unit and they sounded alright. Went out and bought a 600 watt 2 channel DUAL XPR82D and If you are looking for loud with decent audio you can't go wrong with this configuration. The amp I got from Walmart and the company is based out of Florida (double win for me).
