Painted Paper Art Workshop: Easy and Colorful Collage Paintings

I bought this book for an art class I'm taking and read the book from cover to cover. It is probably most suited for beginners to moderately experienced artists. It has beautiful projects and shows how to make your own painted papers and goes along well with the authors painted paper tutorials on YouTube. It will get your creative ideas flowing.

This book is exactly what I was looking for as far as painting my own papers for my artwork. The author gives detailed instructions for creating many different types of painted papers. My collage technique is very different than hers but I still found this book to be very useful. She is a wonderful artist and a great teacher as well. This book will be dog eared in no time flat!

I am a new, largely self-taught collage artist and I loved this book. It teaches a style of collage that I particularly enjoy viewing and creating. I learned many techniques and look forward to applying some of them to my own work. The art showcased in this book is sheer pleasure too. Very inspirational.

So inspiring! Lots of color pictures, and the artist explains in detail how to go about creating these innovative paintings. Far from your standard collage, this elevates the art to another level. I felt like the artist truly shared her full technique and did not leave steps out - she really worked to help the reader understand why she does each step.

Extremely helpful and a visual delight. A very talented artist shares her method and gives results. Her work is more painterly and less crafty which sets Miss St. Hillaire apart from many who use this method. For those who enjoy multimedia and abstraction, making one's own paper for a project is the perfect addition. So happy to have found the author.

I love this book! I have already referred back to it numerous times. The author Elizabeth St. Hilaire tells you everything you need to know about creating her how to duplicate her type of collages. She tells you everything she uses to paint her own papers that are then torn and assembled in a collage. She goes over how to use a Gelli plate to print textures and then add washes to create collage papers in the colors of your choice. I can't say anything negative about this book. Now, I can't say the same for some of her other books because they are only 80 pages and you see the same material in those books.

I'm a writer, artist, and Craftster, so any book that stimulates my creativity to take flight in new and exciting directions is tops with me. This book is one of those. The thought of "painting" collage with strips of paper is provocative, ingenious, and wonderful. I love this book. Greatly recmmended!

Haven't yet had an opportunity to do more than read through - but it's exciting and inspiring and makes we want to get started as soon as time permits. Shared it with a friend who teaches homeschool art classes - she definitely wants to include these ideas into her classes. The fun part when I read more about the author was discovering that I have one of her pictures on my wall...which I purchased at Pier One.

This book is so so beautiful. I bought one for me and one for a friend. The author has classes too. Wish I could go.

If you want to learn all about 'Paper paintings' this is the book for you!! Its a fabulous and beautifully written book, which gives great details about painting with papers you make yourself. Love it!

Amazing organisational tips. Great pics. Looks easy...in theory!

A good introduction to torn paper painting. It includes list of materials used by St.Hilaire and explanations about the properties and effects of these supplies, thorough and detailed processes used to achieve important artistic elements, and beautiful photographic examples. I'm very happy with my purchase of Painted Paper Art Workshop!
