## Description

Re-Release of the originally 1974 released Klaus Schulze-classic album „Timewind", incl. Generous bonus and a 16-page booklet. Evolving slowly but deliberately over the course of each album side, „Timewind" has been deemed an electronic version of an Indian raga. It resembles in many ways a longer variation of the third track from Tangerine Dream's classic 1974 album Phaedra, "Movements of a Visionary", but it remains a transitional work somewhere between the Krautrock of Schulze's earlier output and the Berlin School character of his following efforts. The intention of „Timewind" was to invoke a timeless state in the listener. Both track titles are references to the nineteenth-century composer Richard Wagner, Bayreuth is the Bavarian town where Wagner had an opera house built for the first performance of his massive Ring Cycle. Wahnfried is the name of Wagner's home in Bayreuth in the grounds of which he was buried in 1883. It is also a pen-name used by Schulze himself.

A jam-packed remaster of the best kind.

*by C***K on Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2020*

Timewind has that lovely mysterious quality that Tangerine Dream and their cohorts had going for basically all of the 70s and some of the 80s. These tones and sounds are vintage, lovely, and no one else sounds like these guys even today. This was the golden age of the synth, and the creativity that followed from some of the top artists would not be matched again in my opinion.Schulze puts out an epic remaster. Not only is the original album here, you get another sequenced album on disc 2 that should keep everyone busy for a lot longer. The good news is that the extra album is actually very decent. It's not Timewind, but few albums are, and it's glorious to hear this record remastered in stunning sound and clarity.Highest recommendation for electronic audio fans.

The Best of the Best, Absolutely No equal, Non-pareil!

*by M***) on Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2001*

This album has no equivalent in its class, no equal, nothing. I am a complete fan of Tangerine Dream, but Klaus Schulze's "Timewind" is the most valuable record I have in my collection. I have had it on my turntable for two years since I bought it and have played it at least 2,000 times--sometimes 5 or 6 times a day! The main reason: STRESS REDUCTION, and I really mean it. The green side (1) is preferred over the red side, but they are both completely capable of putting me into a sleepy orbit a million miles away. Klaus uses his synthesizers to produce waves and sounds that I cannot explain, nor will I try, but the brain knows a treat when it hears it. I highly recommend using headphones with this or any of Schulze's albums; they seemed to be made for private listening. There is no equal to this album known to humankind. There is simply no way to describe the visual images and peaceful bliss that accompany a fully undisturbed listening with a good pair of sealed headphones. Closest to heaven I'll ever get in this lifetime. No dramatics, I just call it as I see it. If it was not true, I would have told you. Each listener will surely have his or her own response, but "Timewind" must mean what its title says: that it makes no difference what year it is. What you listen to hear, my friend, is what they will call "classical" music three or four hundred years from now, maybe sooner. There are no vocals, and that's another concern with my music. No, I do not hate people, I just like music that expands my consciousness and helps me to relax. Schulze, in my educated guess, recorded this album on the first take, as with many great musical contributions, and I bet he could never get the same result twice. The total playing time is only 43 minutes, making it all the more rare. I cannot overstate the quality of this musical gem, the diamond of my collection! If you have a copy, do not, under any circumstance, lose it. If you do not have a copy, then buy one as soon as you can. It was hard enough to find on CD, where, unlike my record player, I can put repeat on and listen to it about six times a night until I fall asleep into the most rejuvinating slumber possible. Don't wait any longer, as your emotional wellbeing is yearning already. If you are not used to electronic or ambient music, you need only to wait until its full effect can be appreciated. This album, like other favorites of mine, will lift you out of depression, states of unreasonable anger, anxiety, insomnia, mood swings, or any other undesired emotional states. Buy it today! Top recommendation!

    Stunning electronic music

*by N***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2003*

I got this album because a friend reccommended it to me. I love Tangerine Dream, so when I found out that Klaus Schulze created similar music, I decided to check his stuff out as well.Timewind is quite different from Tangerine Dream. The main thing that I notice that is different is the absence of movements in this music. Both tracks feature a main theme that runs the length of the song, with different melodies layered over it. The songs on here are almost thirty minutes long a piece, so they're the perfect thing to mellow out to. I really enjoy "Beirut Return," because it had a simple rhythm that keeps you going along, while the different themes that come up reinforce the general mood of the track. "Wahnfried" is almost a 180--no rhythm, with the sound of wind and long held chords over it. It has a very cold, atmospheric touch to it, making it the perfect thing to listen to late at night while meditating. To put it shortly, Timewind reminds me of travelling on the Trans Siberian railway--you see landscape passing you by that is somewhat similar while always being in the same train. It's a very interesting and intense journey that will keep you coming back for more.
