Amazing surround sound system!
I started looking at surround sound systems online about a year ago. I was always hesitant to purchase an item like this from Amazon as I felt that buying a surround sound system is something you may want to experience in a store (Yes, I said the dreaded words, my hands are sweating a bit typing this, a retail store among general population) to make sure you knew what you were getting. To actually hear what I was buying.I read so many reviews on a bunch of different surround sound systems and was left disappointed because I couldn't find one that didn't have some kind of negative review. One thing you need to realize about reviews on electronics. Some of these reviews are left by people like an older relative who calls you for tech support because something isn't working when in reality it's a small fix and usually something they did wrong to screw up a perfectly good device. We are new parents and I had a budget of $400.00 so I needed to make sure I could buy the surround sound system and any accessories I felt that we'd need such as speaker towers and maybe some additional cables to run behind the couch for that true surround sound effect.I decided to pull the trigger and purchased this system from Amazon and was NOT disappointed at all. There were a few minor hiccups along the way as I'm new to surround sound and being a new parent maybe I was turning into one of those older relatives I mentioned prior in my review. No worries though as everything is up and running now. I currently have the newest Roku attached to it along with my PS4 and even sync my phone up to it for flawless audio streaming. How good does this bad boy stream audio from your handheld devices? I forgot that my phone was synced up to the receiver and I walked (ran) all the way down the hallway to use the bathroom one morning and decided I wanted to listen to Dirty Heads to lighten the mood in the bathroom when I heard the audio start roaring out of the surround sound system down the hallway and around the corner. Yeah, it's that amazing. If you're looking for a system to start off with or replace your current system I would definitely recommend picking this one up - the sound quality and volume/bass it absolutely amazing! Just don't call me for tech support.

Very happy with this setup.
This is an average Joe review and I am not particularly into home audio equipment. My wife and I ordered this as part of a small scale home theater install and we are very pleased with this setup. It has four HDMI inputs, AM/FM radio, bluetooth and plenty of options for expansion should be want to upgrade speakers down the road. The setup was cake overall. Some have commented that the sub is not super aggressive but for general movie viewing we found the whole setup plenty powerful and well balanced. Only a couple hours of use in but so far we like it and it was around $200 less than other similar units we were looking at.6/29/17 Update: I had a A/V pro friend stop over to work his magic on setup for our home theater. For this unit the biggest improvement was found when we set the speaker to viewer distance, that did a great job of balancing the various speakers. The rears in my setup had to be offset to slighter higher output as the white noise test indicated that were still lacking slight. Also - the crossover was set really high standard meaning that little to no bass is sent to the speakers with most being channeled to the sub. By lowering the X-over more bass was sent out to the satellite speakers making the sounds fuller as a whole. Overall - this unit went from four to five stars based on a bit of tweaking within the menu settings. I highly recommend that purchases take 30 min to work through the settings to get the most out of the OE equipment. 10 to 12 hours in post tuning and still love this setup.

Good value
Its a really good system for small rooms represents a huge jump from TV sound and is much better then a sound bar or a cheap samsung systems so its a good value and it has good sound processing software and produces good Dolby Digital and surround modes. Stereo sound is smallish and there is not enough dynamics for an audiophile listener but it can produce a clean and pleasant background style classical music ambiance so if you are not demanding you can tune it for what is a typical stereo receiver sound. But it wont create any kind of true to life dynamic sound for real listening so don't get it for that it ain't happening even with an upgrade in speakers. I get very good quality (near audiophile) stereo sound out of the headphones playing CDs and streaming HD radio using the ASR feature. It really livens it up. This was for my daughters small bedroom and shes always with the headphones on so the receiver is perfect for that so Im adding the star back. This receiver is a great solution for modern needs really.

Great sound for the price but the receiver leaves a bit to be wanted
Just got done installing my very first home entertainment system. Is this set out of this world? No, absolutely not. Is it really dang good for the price? I would say so. The speakers are pretty darn good for the cost. I can hear small details in newer movies and overall the quality is something I'm very happily surprised by. The base is a little lack luster but I don't need it to shake the house. It's perfectly adequate. Now, the receiver has some opportunities. It is missing a lot of the basics you'll find with a more expensive receiver. You can't change the name of ports to the systems you have in it. You can't run composite video into it, only HDMI (but there are VGA to HDMI converters I bought that work perfectly fine). There aren't a lot of settings you can adjust and fine tune to make things just right. But again, for the price, it has worked extremely well. If this is your first system or you aren't super concerned about the finer details and just want a good standard home entertainment system that you can enjoy without breaking the bank, this is a great option.
