This 50lb bag of Annual Ryegrass was exactly what we needed to start the renewal process on a large lawn that had been severely mismanaged. Planted in the Fall, the seeds sprouted quickly and robustly.In the early spring, the rygrass will begin to break down while we spike disc the lawn in preparation of planting fescue to recover the lawn. The rygrass will feed the soil as it breaks down.Additionally, we plan to plant this ryegrass every Fall over the existing new lawn to repeat the process of feeding the long grass as it comes to life in the Spring.Very easy to spread and phenomenally good germination. Could not be more pleased!It's an easy FIVE STAR rating from me, along with my honest and very hearty recommendation if you have any of the needs that ryegrass can assist with. I planted the seed with night temperatures below 68 F and watered twice daily for 2 weeks with no germination. Unfortunately, I bought another 50 lb bag before seeing the results and can't return the bag without paying shipping. I'm disappointed and saw that Tractor supply has the 50 lb bag of winter rye grass seed for $50.It's now Oct 27th and has rained a couple of inches this week. The pictures show the rye grass growing now so I changed the rating from a 1 to a 4. Hopefully, it fills in completely. I have a big back yard as well that has started growing but not as uch as the front.

So this stuff is very complicated! I'm endlessly impressed by how quickly it sprouts and how quickly it grows. It's a weirdly "wet grass" what I mean by that is - when you mow it (regardless of how wet it has been) the grass gives off a lot of water. As a result, it will clog your mower like you cannot imagine. It leaves giant chunks throughout the yard that then kill the grass underneath it. So if your yard looked horrible and you needed it to look good for a week or 2 while you listed a house, this is the grass for you! It can seemingly grow anywhere. It's just not sustainable.In addition, it needs an absurd amount of water and it just seems pretty sensitive. It's rather hard to keep it looking good for more than a few weeks.
