D-Day Fortifications in Normandy (Fortress Book 37)

as a beginner, not an academic, I find this book to give a very good overview of the various types of bunker defences and their locations. There are numerous photos of the bunkers taken at time of capture, and their condition now.I suppose there are other books that give greater detail on each location and type of bunker and construction. But if you are just starting out to examine the Normandy beaches and defences, then I don't think you can go far wrong with this book to get you going.There are listed of the tours of bunkers and how many per beach, type and how many guns. How many under construction, how many completed. Even a map showing the interlocking arcs of fire from each beach.I find it very easy to read and follow, And provides a good introduction for what you will see when yo go to Normandy.

I enjoyed reading this book as it provided me with a lot of information about the defences and the and the parts they played during the landings. I had previously visited some of the locations but had not seen others as I didn't know they were there. I will visit the sites on my next visit to normandy. a good read for anyone interested in the D-Day invasion. Had a great collection of photo's & maps. which added to the pleasure of reading it as they could be used to associate the information to.

Contains enough info on this matter to keep you coming back to read this book.

Mr Zaloga is an excellent writer no matter the topic. This is not the most extensive book on Normandy, but it never tries to be and is a most excellent starter with a decent bibliography for those inclined to know more.

A useful guide for anyone who is about to visit the Normandy beaches. I had great use of this book when I was there in 2014.

I liked the detail the book went into for the different designs of fortification. Marked it as a four star only because it did not quite work as well as a kindle read. The diagrams got broken up.

Good source of German Bunker types and strong points.

Great overview with plenty of background information about the area - a must for anyone visiting with an interest in WWII
