Sleepypod Atom pet Carrier, one Size

I absolutely love this bag. I was concerned after reading the few reviews I could find that it would be too small, etc. and not worth the high price tag, but it had been recommended to me and I was excited about the sturdiness of the bag and the ease of use for daily running around. I have now had this bag for over a month and have used it for walking errands around town, traveling by car, train, and plane, and just as a general "safe spot" around the house. My dog loves it, I love it, I couldn't be happier.First, a note on my dog. She's a 6 year old 6 lb Maltese. It is the perfect size for her. I was concerned that since she's nearly as long as the bag nose-to-rear that she wouldn't be able to turn around. She stands up and turns around just fine. Half the time she curls up on one end, even, but her favorite position is lying lengthwise with her head resting on the open edge when I open the flap and velcro one end back. This is her happy place. She's a very nervous dog and a rescue. For her, this bag means security and the promise that she gets to come along with me on my next adventure. If she sees me putting on my shoes and coat, she climbs into the bag. All I have to do now is say "bag" and in she hops. She doesn't care that she's about to be jostled on my hip for the next several hours, she is just happy she gets to come along.Second, the bag. It is very well made and makes sense on a number of levels. I wear it cross body style but also on one shoulder. It gets heavy over time, and she's only 6 lbs, but if you're stronger it won't seem so bad. I'm so glad I did not go with the Air, it would have been much too big for both of us. The Atom works well slipped over my carry on luggage and I love the harness clip inside. She jumped out of the bag a couple of times but because she was clipped in I was able to quickly get her back in the bag. The side pouches hold her documents, flattened water bowl, treats, toys, pee pad, etc.; everything I needed for international travel (9 hr Atlantic flight followed by 6 hr domestic flight). I love that the flaps fold up to allow her to stick her head out and observe the world while we're on the move.In all, I am completely happy with this bag, thrilled with the color, and don't have any cons I can think of!

My wife's puppy Min-Pin chewed out the inside tether within the first couple minutes. Other than that, it's been good. Hooking it to a seat belt works well. We put a small box in it to make the area smaller so she'll be less likely to pee in it. That's been working. We'll take it out after she grows and matures.

I liked the sturdiness of this product , but it did not work for us. I was looking for a safety tested car seat that passed crash test and that I could also use on airplanes. This product does not have windows on the two long sides. There are two windows on each end and one long window on the top. We live in Florida where it’s hot most of the time. My 4 lb chihuahua has been traveling in our car in a plastic crate with no issues. She never cries or makes noises of any kind. When I placed her in this new seat, she was panting and crying like never before. I tried it several times to see if she got used to it, but it was just too hot with no windows on all sides. She also did not like that she could not see me. I had to return this car seat.

I'd like to preface this with saying my cat is a known escape artist. She chewed her way out of her carrier on the way to being spayed. The inside of a lesser carrier was clawed to shreds after she spent a cumulative 2 hours in it. After reading reviews for this carrier, I wanted to try it out myself, but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend $100 on a carrier she was just going to destroy. Well I'm pleased to say, after a nightmare last minute trip with her that included missing a flight after standing in line at the check-in counter for an hour, hanging out at the airport for 4 hours before the next flight, and spending 2 hours in a loud scary metal tube, I'm happy to say this carrier held up. There are definitely bite marks on the inside, and one of the velcro pieces is pretty shredded, but all the important stuff (the walls, floor, and sceen) have barely any damage even though she was going to town on it during the flight. If you have a cat that turns into a crazed animal whenever you travel with them, I can definitely recommend this carrier will at least keep them from escaping with minimal visible damage done.

I love Sleepypod products. They are exceptionally well made with lots of thoughtful details. I ordered the Atom Pet Carrier for one of my cats for a long car ride we were taking. I thought I could use it for the drive as well as for future flights we might be taking. Unfortunately, the Atom was much too small for my cat. She is a petite 6 pounds, but she could barely fit, much less turn around inside of it. Honestly, this carrier is only meant for the tiniest of animals - maybe a teacup doggie of some sort.I highly recommend the Sleepypod mobile pet bed and carrier instead. It's round with a domed mesh top. While a good bit more expensive, it was worth every penny. Both of my cats have loved sleeping in it, and it made them feel safe in the car. Like the Atom, it has a wonderful, fur-lined interior (which zips out for cleaning), which the kitties love to snuggle in. But the shape and the domed top made for a much more roomy and comfortable experience.
