DO NOT BUY!! Umbrella broke after 2 weeks
DO NOT BUY!! Umbrella broke after just 2 weeks. The clip on the inside of umbrella broke and the umbrella no longer opens with out you having to yank it open. Definitly not worth the money seller is asking.

Very Sturdy Umbrella
There are 2 ways to review this, as an umbrella and as a self-defense weapon. As an umbrella this thing is much sturdier than the cheap ones most of us have bought at a drug store, and it screams quality when you are holding it. The videos you see of people standing on them are accurate, the inner core is reinforced fiberglass and you can literally beat a heavy bag with this thing or try to bend it and it will come out fine. It opens via button and fires out quickly when needed. The material is waterproof, and the size is just about perfect to keep one person from getting wet. The main downside is that this is not telescoping, meaning when carrying this around it is basically a 3-foot-long shaft that won't easily fit in bags or coats. It does come with a fabric sheath, but this is probably something you are going to keep in the trunk for when you need it since it is large to carry around all the time, meaning you won't always have it when you need it.Now as a self-defense weapon I don't really know how to review this. If you are a strong man or woman and know how to strike and generate power, then yes, this thing is basically an escrima stick with a pointy metal tip. You can use it to block strikes, keep distance, and I would not want to take a strike in the ribs from someone that knew what they were doing with this. However, its usefulness depends entirely on you. If you are a small old lady or someone who just has no experience / can't fight or throw punches, and can't generate the power for hard strikes well then this is not going to do anything for you. It isn't big and heavy like a baseball bat; it isn't small and dangerous in any hands like a knife...it just is.For my purposes I wouldn't buy this and expect to use it as a weapon, but it is a nice backup if you live in an area where you need an umbrella anyway. It is a sturdy umbrella and costs maybe double what a nice normal umbrella will cost you and is pretty much unbreakable. You can even get a rubber tip for the end and use it as a walking stick, so it is more versatile. It has the advantage of being unassuming and looking and feeling like a normal umbrella, anyone who examines it will just see it as a nice quality umbrella, not a weapon. However if you are only interested in the self-defense aspects and not keeping dry in the rain, there are better options. So, my verdict is if you need an umbrella anyway you can't really go wrong with this, but if you want it exclusively as a weapon get an aluminum bat...or an ax...or a pocket knife...they will do the job better. The only advantage this has over those is that it looks like an umbrella, and so for places where an umbrella would be acceptable but weapons are frowned upon this is better than nothing.

Easily broken, no customer support
I loved everything about this umbrella until it broke. The closing latch broke very easily. The umbrella was closed and it slipped from my hand point down. The drop was about 8 inches. The umbrella popped open. It will close but won’t latch closed. To keep it closed you have to use the external strap. Not a huge deal, unless it is raining and you are getting into your car or need to close it up quickly. For the price and claim of sturdiness I found this to be a major defect. I contacted Security Umbrella through their website but heard nothing back. I haven’t decided which umbrella I will replace this one with.

Will stay together for a year or so. Priced too high
Used for a year on three trips overseas. After one year the protective metal end cap at the pointy end of the umbrella falls off. They use 3 stamped dimples to hold it in place. It does not work. Mine fell off the umbrella and I couldn't find it. It keeps the end fibers attached to the center from being damaged if you have to strike something with it. They need to use a 2 part epoxy or silicone based glue to keep it from falling apart and not just depend on friction fit only. The carrying case needs to be a thicker quality material as the seams on mine fell apart. The loop attached to the case needs to be of a thicker more durable material as well. They use the umbrella fabric to make the case. Hence the lack of durability and ease of ripping off. Umbrella should be priced at 50 USD and not 109 dollars because you'll have to buy a new one once a year because construction falls apart after that. The person who designed the umbrella has never had to travel with it long term. He justs sits at a desk designing umbrellas. With that said, the supports are thicker than a normal umbrella and you should be able to get in a couple decisive strikes with it to someone's limbs, so you can escape or solve your predicament.

If it rains ok but not for walking about
Idea is a good one but unless I give this to my kids to use for school when that opens up it too short for a person to walk down the street and try to act normal one has to slouch down because it so short.

Not Built To Last
You'd think a premier umbrella that has a necessary specific functionality would take extra measures to make every piece dependable, but within a few short weeks two pieces from the top fell off. You'd also think they'd provide a sufficient carrying bag, but the flimsy thing broke within a few days. I contacted the company for a replacement and they sent me an awkward sack which also broke after a short time. Meanwhile I have dollar store beach chairs and somehow their cases are doing just fine! Disappointed that such high hopes from the company were not fulfilled. I will however say that I think it could still protect me in a security situation, so it gets a solid 3 stars.

I love this umbrella...
I love this umbrella and how well it is made. It is so sturdy and works just as described. I like using this as my cane to get around and then if it is raining I use it for my wife to protect her from the elements. I have not needed to use this for self defense but I can see it will work great if I need it for that. I highly recommend this umbrella to everyone.

Feel Confident
An umbrella that feels like a baton. Great item, I love useful self defense items. No, I won't open it up for the rain, this is truly an effective weapon. Blocking an attack, and two ends to strike with. One end is hardwood, the other is a small rounded point.
