Fantastic lens
Very sharp, contrasty, handles well. Put it on a Z9 and did some focus stacking and it worked like a charm. Images unlike anything I could do with traditional set up. Wished it was a bit longer focal length or it took the TC, but still highly recommended.

Clear and sharp images
I love the macro abilities with this lens, but I also enjoy how versatile it is. I’m just an amateur photographer in my free time but I’ve really enjoyed using this lens. I only seem to have issues with the autofocus when I have it set to the crop format instead of full frame, which was my fault not realizing that’s what I had it set on. Other than that I’ve got no complaints! Great price for a terrific lens. Some of these photos I’ve added were even taken through a window but you’d never know it, it stays sharp and focused.

Amazin
This lens is superb quality, takes super sharp photos, nice looking bokeh, its a great little thing to have. The build quality and edge to edge sharpness are superb. Its everything you would expect from a Nikkor S lens, and then a little extra.I have some issues with the auto focus, I tried point focusing, but even on a relatively large object in the foreground more often than not it jumps around a bit then goes off to infinity never to return, even when I limit it with the switch. but I have focusing issues with many of my lenses, so maybe its me and not the lens. I must have ADHD, I just can't seem to focus!. Other than that one problem, which is most likely my fault, this lens is amazing to use, and I would recommend it to anyone that want's to try macro photography. Although it can absolutely be used for other things than macro, unless you have an interest in macro I would recommend a different lens. If you're all about macro, or at least want to try it and also have a nice 105MM 1:1 portrait lens, this is the way to go. If you have no interest in macro, I suggest you find a different 105 prime for your portraits etc.

AMAZING lens!
I have the Nikkor 85 mm S and 50 mm S and love both of them. But the sharp and crispness of the 105 mm MC is unmatched. The 105 is a bit heavy but since I use it mainly on a tripod, the weight isn’t a huge deal. But it feels solid. Like a super professional lens. The focusing is lacking if used as a portrait lens. But if used as a macro lens, it’s fine. It does do some hunting but does a good job finding the focal points. The versatility of this lens is amazing. Great for macro AND portraits.

Absolutely stunning
This is the 3rd macro lens for me. I also have a Sigma 150mm f/2.8 that is very good. This Nikkor is just a smidge better. Surprisingly light weight for what it is. All the latest Nikon bells and whistles, including an OLED panel in the lens itself that shows the magnification ratio, focus distance, f-stop, and depth-of-field zone. Couldn't ask for more. Sharp, sharp, sharp!

My new favorite
I've been in the Nikon ecosystem for far, far longer than I would care to admit, but it's long enough that my previous go-to for macro work is a 55mm f/2.8 manual focus.I've switched to the Nikon Z50 mirroless as my primary camera and am trying to avoid the FTZ adapter, so upgrading to the Z 105mm f/2.8 seemed like a logical next step.I got it today and visited the garden to see what sort of damage that I could create. I'm super impressed by the clarity this lens provides. There's obviously some trial and error getting critical focus at macro distances, but pixels are cheap so filling the SD card is relatively painless. The 105 does great double duty as a portrait lens as well as closeups. Glad that I could get it while the price was dropped by $200, but I would say it's a great value even at full price.fwiw, I paired this with the 62mm Hoya HD3 MC UV filter to provide front lens element protection

Fast autofocus
This macro lens functions perfectly. Its autofocus works remarkably well, fast, and in low light with very short distance to subject (10 inches). Images are sharp edge to edge without detectable distortion. Very pleased.
