In the picture the end is bent upwards. Doesn't that dig into the bottom of your mattress? What's it's purpose?

Yes it does, you can't feel it at all. I believe it's purpose is to add friction so that it can't slide out. Product works great I love mine, keeps muscle memory being that the gun is always in the same position and same spot.

Would this work at the head of the bed, against the wall?

Aboslutely! You can put it anywhere around the bed that you would like to. You'd like have to keep a few inches of space between the bed and the wall. Thanks for the inquiry!

Will it hold a iPhone 6+?

Yes will hold any size iPhone I have mine in the otter box defender and it's fits with room I love this thing fits my M&p shield a spare mag and my cell phone while it charging and room for a note pad or two

Does the backing material scratch the finish on your gun?

It is a plastic material. I've not noticed any scratches on my Beretta.
