Q: I just received this today and installed it. The spring coils are very loud when opening and closing the door.

Mine is quiet. Maybe you have the tension set too tight

Q: Can you use this on a bifold door?

I’m not real sure. It’s going to give a gentle push near the hinges. Push on your bifold there. ( about 6-10 inches out). Does the door close? Then yes.

Q: Can this door closer be set on the vertical inset of an external door jamb that opens outward?

Maybe, but I don't think you would want to use this product and have it exposed to the weather.
