Captain Salty's Book of Fire Service Wisdom: A practical guide to passing probation, and getting the most out of your early career as a firefighter

As someone who is considering this as a career switch, I was grateful for knowledge. It was hilariously straightforward which I can appreciate and gives further insight to the job.

I'm an author who is using this book as a resource for a character in a work in progress.This is a great resource for those interested in becoming a firefighter but also to show a very full scope of what the firefighter life involves.The insights are realistic, colorful, and at times raw, all told in a way that is captivating and entertaining.Will definitely read this one over and over.

Full disclosure, the author of this book is a friend of mine. I’m an accountant, not a firefighter but I thought it only right to order my friend’s book and give it a read. What I found was some very insightful thoughts and suggestions that I’m sure would help a new firefighter but conceptually seemed to also be applicable to many if not most work environments. As I read on, I got a glimpse of what work life is like for firefighters who literally put their lives on the line to help us (the public) in some of our worst moments and often to their own detriment. So if you know a firefighter or have ever called on the services of a firefighter or ever had to pull over so they could get by on the way to help someone, this is a good read written by a great guy. And if you are a firefighter you might even know what some of the acronyms in the book mean. I’ll be asking the author next time I see him.

Got it in the mail today, sat down to read a couple chapters before bed, didn’t put it down. A very enlightening read for someone getting into the fire service. A very matter-of-fact way of putting things, which I appreciate, along with jokes thrown in to make the reading fun. Being a previous intern at a fire station I have heard many of these tips/tricks during my time there, but to have it put into words how important some thing are that you usually wouldn’t think are that important, how much people are watching, how to go about certain situations that will arise... I wish I had this book at the beginning of my internship. A quick, necessary read for anyone beginning their fire department career. Highly recommend

This book is a great read for a probationary firefighter, it offers a lot of knowledge that may not be common sense to a person new to the fire service. That being said, the book is unfortunately riddled with typos, grammatical, and formatting errors; however, still worth buying, 100%.

Great read, funny and intelligent.

Excellent guide for the new firefighter and a great reminder for the old Salty Dogs of how they got there. A must read for every department.
