Incredible Cost-Saving Laser Measurement Device!
I will save more than cost of this S8G unit by not buying too much paint or not enough flooring covering, not to mention how much work time I’ll save by using it! Device uses pre-programmed Geometry functions and powerfully bright green laser precision to make measuring incredibly easy and amazingly accurate. No more fighting with an uncooperative tape measure or having to use 2 people to get accurate sizing for your large-scale projects. Device displays results in your choice of meters, feet, inches, or feet and inches (including fractional additions divided in 1/16 in. increments). You choose whether device starts measurement values from the back, front, or middle (tripod mount opening provided). Automatically displays total area (and perimeter) calculation results from taking 2 linear measurements (use with your paint brand coverage value to see exactly how much paint you’ll need for your project). Powerful green laser even works outdoors to measure the height of the tree in your backyard, etc. On a bright sunny day, I was able to make 50 ft. measurements by working in the shade. Direct sunlight greatly reduces workable outdoor distances, but that problem can be solved by working at dusk! Use a helper with some kind of board target (simple cardboard will work) or even more reflective target, and you can easily figure out the actual area of your yard (save money buying only as much fertilizer or treatment spray as you really need). At night, I came very close to measuring objects at the claimed 229 ft. limit of the device (probably needed a tripod for stability that I lacked in a hand-held situation). Claimed operating temperature range is 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, but I didn’t test for those conditions.Model S8G is manufactured in China; English instruction sheet provided isn’t too bad, but I had to stop and think about what they were trying to convey on some of the more complicated functions that the device supports (i.e. calculating cubic capacity, minimum and maximum range values, angle measurements, and so on). As one example, they used the word “circumference” when they’re actually measuring the perimeter (border) of a rectangle. IP-65 water/dust resistance rated device is 4 ½ in (L) x 2 in (W) x 1 in (D) and 4.47 oz with 3 AAA batteries installed. Auto-OFF at 3 minutes of inactivity. Last used device display options for units of measure and starting measurement point are auto recalled when unit is restarted. Audio beeps for functional steps can be disabled. Per instruction sheet, supported functions are Single Distance; Continuous; Area; Volume; Pythagoras (2-point); Pythagoras (3-point); Auto-level; Auto-Height; Measurement Value Add/Subtract; and Tilt Sensor (Angles). Unit memory bank holds up to 20 different measurements that can be scrolled through. Turning unit OFF clears that memory bank. Sorry that I can’t fully describe all the supported functionality in the context of this review. Although conditional warranty is for one year, it says unit is to be returned to China – I don’t believe I would do that. Discounting warranty conditions, I found unit functionality to be impressive!I believe this structurally protected device will withstand reasonable use and deliver consistent and accurate results under typically encountered work conditions. I received free product in return for my unbiased review. I hope you will find my comments and honest opinions helpful in your considerations of this recommended product.

Not as fast as the Bosch
I use these in arena rigging and it just takes too long to get a read. Also struggles more the further you shoot it.

When Length Does Matter
And it has to be accurate, this laser measurer fits just right. I have always been leery of laser measures based past experience with the old fashioned ultrasonic measuring devices. The ones I tried were clunky and not very accurate. I considered these to be gimmicks. Well, these have been out for a while now, so I decided, why not? I love gadgets especially when they work as intended. This one works as intended. The laser measure comes in a nice protective case and the device itself is well made and easy to hold. It comes with batteries which are easy to insert into the casing. The manual is easy to understand and explains all of the functions. The hard part is refolding it.Using the laser measure, once you understand all of its functions is pretty easy. The well lit screen shows the current functions and the green laser, wow, it is very easy to see even in bright light. I haven't tried it outside yet in full sun. For measuring units, it supports meters, feet, inches and feet and inches. I have mine set to feet and inches. I thought this would display decimals like 7' 8.5" but it actually does fractions which is way cool. It will display as 7' 8 1/2" taking the guess work out your measurement. No more converting. See my photo of the device along side a standard tape measure. They both read the same distance. I was measuring the length of a counter top to a wall. They both came to 6' 8 5/16ths". Pretty darn accurate. This particular device can be set to measure from the front, the back and from the tripod screw on the back side. To make sure your measurements are accurate, it has a tilt indicator on the screen. Get it to zero and you know you are doing a parallel measurement and not an angled one which will throw you off a bit especially longer distances. This device will take single line measurements as well as area, volume, Pythagoras point, Pythagoras 3 point (1), Pythagoras 3 point(2), the angle from the point of a triangle and auto height.About the only thing I would like to see improved is to have some of the function indicators a bit larger. As I get older it is getting harder to see the small print. The normal measurements are fine for readability. Younger, better eyes won't have a problem. We just moved to a new, older house and will be doing some renovation. Using this has made getting the area for the rooms for new flooring easy and quick. So if you are a contractor or just an active doer like me, you can't go wrong with this laser measure device.

Great value for the features and convenience.
I bought this recently after thinking about getting one of these tools for a long time. I needed to take some measurements for a fence and other yard work and the regular tape measure was too short. Here are my thoughts after using it for a couple of days. The good:- Price is great!- Lots of features - angle, green laser, Pythagorean and add/subtract calculations- Device is well made and feels solid- measurements are fast and repeatable- the carrying case included is pretty decent- tripod mountableThe bad:- doesn't work well outdoors in bright sunlight. I had a hard time getting it to lock on to any distances and it gave some really strange readings.- as others have mentioned, the green laser is a step up from red, but still hard to see in daylight. All in all, it's a great value and it's working well so far. If there are any issues I'll update here.

Highly repeatable accuracy at all distances and in all weather including rain.
I do not have a tripod to test this with, but using this handheld with an unmarked wooden target at 170 feet it was highly reliable and accurate to within mm, when resting on a wooden survey stake pounded into the ground.I am very pleased with this reliable tool.

Don't buy
It stops working before your done. You will still be moving it around and it stops working and gives you some reading. Then you have to start the whole process all over again. I guess they didn't realize that what the power button is for.
