bread
Rye Berries arrived in two days ready to use. They worked perfect in our pumpernickel bread. I ended up ordering more to make more bread.

as advertised
Great for REAL Pumpernickel bread. If you have 14 hours to bake it.

Nice whole grain cereal
We make a multigrain breakfast cereal most mornings. This is a nice addition. Lots of flavor and fiber but cooks more quickly than whole rye berries. But still lots of intact fiber for a healthy gut.

Rye chops are a little coarse
I am using these to make German rye breads. Other brands I had bought before were a little finer grind - which I liked. These are coarser and I am waiting to see how they work in various recipes.

Used this for Danish rugbrød and it was delicious!

Great addition to bread recipes
I like to add rye chops (cracked rye berries) to my rye bread and other recipes. While whole rye berries are available in a variety of sources, the cracked/chopped berries are a hard-to-find item. This product is exactly what I was looking for.

I should have known better
My wife told me not to buy food from Amazon. But the seller looked reputable and claims to grow the rye in the USA. So I decided to go ahead and give it a try.My mistake. The product arrived with a hole in it, leaking all over the shipping envelope. My first ten attempts to return it ended with an automated system telling me that it's not eligible for return, even though the product description says that it is eligible when it arrives damaged (which it did). The distributor did answer emails, but they told me I was Amazon's problem.Anyway, the rye looked very poorly milled; the kernels were unevenly sized, and there was a lot of dust inside the bag. It looks like it was "milled" in a food processor. If I wanted that, I could have bought whole rye and "milled" it myself.By contrast, the cracked rye from Janie's Mill is nothing but clean, consistent kernels with no dust whatsoever. I'll go ahead and re-order from them, even if it means paying shipping on a small order.

if you are making Danish Rye you need this
if you are making Danish Rye you need this ... rye berries, in addition to rye flour. I switched to the same company's who rye berries and it's even better, but you need to let it soak 24 hours before baking rather than 12 for the cracked berries.
