Amateur at home cook
I've been researching online for a good food thermometer recently as my old digital one stopped working when I dropped it into some frying oil. When I came upon this model for Chic Cuisine I was instantly intrigued by the waterproof feature and the fact that it has such a wide temperature range. This can really come in handy if you, like me, do many different types of cooking/baking. I also like that it has an auto off function. This thermometer is really quite versatile. I've used it so far when grilling, broiling, baking, and will attempt frying tonight. The physical aspects of the thermometer are great for a cook like me, amateur and clumsy :-). It is long enough that I feel safe using on the grill and in the oven, but when you connect the cover to the end you have an even longer reach. The clip in the back is great too, I just clip it to my apron or pocket so I always have it at hand. I'm very pleased with my purchase so far and will try to come back to update my review as I use it with more things.

Recieved Not Working - Bad LED's
I receieved this in 'not working' condition so my review is limited. It does look and feel pretty good, solid. It looks like it's reading the temperature fairly well and with fast response time although it is difficult to make out the exact digits because the LED's are missing some segments that make up the complete number digit. So I am returning for a refund since they are out of stock on this item I will have to look for another. Nothing makes grilling and cooking easier than a good meat thermometer. My star rating is because of quality control is suspect...otherwise it would get 5.

Worth the investment!
I really didn’t think there was much difference in meat thermometers. You stick them in and read the number, right? After I accidently melted the one I'd used for years, I thought I’d try digital. I wanted a good one that would last a long time, so I purchased this one. It is a good choice. For starters, the digital readout is large and bright (good for us ‘older’ cooks). Following the directions to put it in the meat before I turned it turn it on, I was still surprised at how fast it reported. No more letting the heat out of the oven while I check the meat! The digital system is much more exact than that little dial thing, too, so all and all, I am very satisfied with my purchase. By the way, the company is excellent to work with. I emailed a question to them and their customer service person responded immediately. She helped me with my issue right away, but also, she made me feel like she really cared that my experience with the thermometer was a good one. Good product, good company!

Didn't get it because of Amazon
Amazon does not fully disclose their shipping policies on their website. Supposedly this item was being shipped fed ex and therefore would have been delivers to my street address. I also have a PO box for anything being shipped USPS.Amazon shipped fed-ex but not regular fed ex - I found out this item was shipped fed ex smart post (never heard of that until I did not receive this item, which was a christmas present for my sister) . Because I had. I idea the USPS would be involved I did not give them my PO box # . Because the last leg of the journey involved the USPS and I did not include, the PO box, my gift was returned to Amazon and I cancelled the order. It was very upsetting to me that there was not full disclosure on Amamzon's website, instructing customers that the USPS might be involved in a fed ex shipping so that I could have given them my PO box and street address.I know my sister would have enjoyed the meat and food thermometer. - it was what she asked me to get her. I regret I was not able to give her this product.

ok but delicate
Seems to work ok. Is accurate, but not especially fast. Takes 5-10 seconds to get a good reading. Buttons are too small and hard to press. The probe is long and not very sturdy. I figure I'll bust the thing within a year.

Works great, reads VERY fast, nicely built, good long probe but the LCD is kind of tiny
I bought this thermometer because I grew a little weary of holding and old fashioned meat thermometer in chicken and turkey while my hand roasted. I really loved the idea of an "instant" read thermometer and decided to try one. I bought this one just before Thanksgiving--figured cooking a turkey would be a good test. (I normally overcook everything because I'm so paranoid and that only toughens meat, so owning this one long overdue.)The result? Works great. It reaches the temperature in under five seconds (regardless of what a few other reviewers have said, that's very fast!) The probe is plenty long but you can make it longer by reversing the plastic protective case and holding onto that. And the case is a very tight fit, both when it's covering the probe and when you use it as a handle extension--so no worries. I really don't know if the temperature is completely accurate, but it seemed to be dead on to me. And again, it went from zero to 175 (in this case) in under five seconds. The instructions suggest that you insert the probe first and THEN turn it on and I think that helps to speed up readings. (Yes, it actually helps to follow the instructions.)I think the design is very nice, very simple and the buttons (on/off, hold, hi/low) are easy to use and logical. My only complaint (and the reason I gave this four stars instead of five) is that the LCD panel is pretty small. I was able to read it just fine, but I would much prefer a larger display. I would think someone who wears reading glasses (me, for example) would always have to wear them to read the buttons and dial. Someone with really failing eyesight should look for something with a bigger display.I'm really glad I bought this. I don't spend $19 that easily on gadgets that I don't use every day, but I'm very happy I bought this.

best ever
first time in 5 years that our expensive rib roast was med rare to rare as we like it. Easy to use, the other thermometer is now in the garbage. I also followed Bon Appetite's directions very carefully. 400 degrees for about 40 min for a 8 lb roast, until brown, then down to 275 about an hr and a half until quick read thermometer reads 115. Then on board with riibs pointed up. for another 30 min.until it was the correct temp for med rare. Of course some of the blood came out. but we kept putting it into the gravy. Result, perfect. I am 72 years old, so trust me.
