Review: Great quality iron for a hobbyist - This iron is excellent! I've only ever owned the no-name irons with tips that get gross almost instantly and never seem to hold a consistent temp, so this is a huge upgrade. I've only used it on a few things, but it's been fantastic so far. For my uses, I've used it to desolder a couple of small wires from PCB, then resolder them with no issues, repair a headphone jack with new solder joints, and fix a guitar jack. When paired with a quality power supply, good solder, and a brass sponge, it works extremely well. It heats up within seconds - it's advertised to get to operating temp in 12, but it seems to be even faster in my experience. Crazy! It also holds a very consistent temperature, and if there are any fluctuations, you see it right on the display. It's comfortable to hold and even looks nice! The tip seems well constructed and it's a good size with a narrow end to get into tight spots. It would be nice if it came with some extras, but I suspect it'll last a while with the right care. I do wish it also came with a bag or case, since having it loose in a drawer isn't ideal. A recommendation or an optional power supply to add on would be great, as well. Just make sure you do some careful shopping and grab one that can output the higher end of what it's able to take. I actually didn't think to buy one and I made it work with a USB-C Macbook charger, and it worked really well so I've had no reason to buy another. Take a look at what you've got lying around and see if it'll work before placing another order. Overall, I highly recommend this iron if you're a hobbyist or enthusiast and just need something simple, effective, and well-made. I did a lot of research and this one kept coming up as the highest recommended cheap iron, and I definitely understand why!
Review: The very best soldering Iron I've ever had. - I've had countless soldering irons over the years and hilariously enough preferred the super cheap old school soldering irons that I used back in electronics class in school because they just worked. I was never able to find a soldering iron that worked as well as those ones until I got this soldering iron. It heats up insanely quickly and is lightweight for those long repair jobs that you're holding it a long time. This soldering iron easily solders anything I ask it to in a hurry rather than having to wait ages for the solder to feel like melting. It fits nice in my hand unlike all the other's I've had that were very bulky from integrated leds and fluff like that. This one does have some bells and whistles but they don't get in your way like the others and their implementation is well thought out and reliable. If you're looking for a lightweight soldering iron that can fit in your pocket (with a small battery bank to power it of course) then you really can't go wrong with this one.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What makes it smarter than other soldering irons ?**
A: Where to start?  Everything, it punches so far beyond its weight class.  Short list;
-RISC-V processor (open source aswell)
-Temperature monitoring takes place from the tip and reads back to the microcontroller. This allows for almost instant compensation when working in different condition, say you dab the iron on a wet sponge, etc,
-Custom functions, power/sleep/so many options to list
-It heats up insanely fast and obviously usb-c is a huge plus as well
-The iron cost 30 bucks, Amazon marks it up a bit but my god this is a dollar store price for an iron that works as well if not better than the Sainsmart offerings (ts100 & ts80/p). I know because I own them all.
-Accepts standard and readily available ts 100 tips.
-again, it’s 30 dollars stop thinking just buy trust me.

Compare this to a “soldering station” most beginners buy which would be 2 in specific:
-Hakko FX888
-Weller (something something) they are both about 100 bucks. They both also operate off of completely archaic methods, you have no control over your tip besides the temp limit you set on the supply; I.e. there’s no feedback from the tip itself to the power- they’re so primitive and clunky. I have those irons as well and the only only only thing they are good for is slapping a big honkin tip on to solder a lug or desolate a large area of components quickly.
Other than that they are inefficient and don nothing more than get hot. Slowly too I should add.

Only way to level up from here is getting into the big names intelligent irons from jbc, Hakko and weller of course sell high end proper stations but way way expensive. Funny thing is they all work the way the 30$ pinecil does, with a little more power(a lot actually) and nice big stations to rest the iron, clean it, change handles, yadda yadda.

Pinecil=dirt cheap bare bones version of a professional soldering station with an Mcu running open source software and has great features.

Cons: no holder/ tip cleaning tools/ power supply.
Con #2: you may feel bad after buying it that you didn’t get one sooner and wasted lots of money on other way overrated units.

Grab your usb c wall watt for your MacBook or whatever is lying around and plug her in. (Note some usb-c pd/qc devices will not support full power or power at all, but it’s not nearly as big of an issue as some make it out to be!)

Whoops that was a long answer

**Q: Are extra tips available to buy for this solder?**
A: Yes, it uses a standard TS100 tip. You can also order them from the Pine64 website.

**Q: Is a 12 volt lifepo4 battery compatible with this solder?**
A: This thing really needs a good amount of juice. I had a ZeroLemon ToughJuice for my previous protable, and it wouldn't push enough to power the Pinecil. If your battery bank can support PD at 65W it should work. If not, I wouldn't count on it.

**Q: Can i use ts100 tips on this unit?**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome Soldering Iron
*by C***0 on April 11, 2026*

Awesome soldering iron. Well built and heats up superfast and holds that temp. Could never solder and once I got into electric RC cars I soon realized I would have to learn how to solder good if I wanted my motors to run as advertised. I bought some other cheaper irons but they weren't that great and thats when I found this Pinecil V2 Smart Iron. Amazon price is the best I've seen and I paired this with Ankers 100w Prime LCD display wall charger with a Miniware 240w USB C cable and Miniware iron tips. I eventually bought the clear body and swapped the internals over to it for a cool see thru look. I can honestly say that this iron along with Kester 44 solder produces perfect welds that are solid, shiny and good electrical flow. Well worth the cost and I have no problem getting great welds on everything from 10awg and smaller.
