Yes, I was a gymnast. We used this exact tape. Not necessarily for grip but it's good to use around the wrist to prevent skin tearing from using actual highbar/ring grips. Also, we used this tape to make rip grips. Once the skin tears on the palm it can be painful but if you use this tape to form a rip grip it will minimize the pain.

Worked excellently on my achilles

When taped effectively round my foot, this has given me the confidence to head out running once my tendonitis cleared up sufficiently.Returning from my runs with no problems at all.The four stars instead of five is down to the price. A few years ago this was about £30 for a box of 32. Now? It's nearly £30 for three!!Even with inflation, that's crazy!
