Solid and Reliable
A perfect internal filter.I am using this in a 240l tank as as an extra / backup filter, my tank also has an external canister filter therefore I am not using only this one.My experience so far though is very good, the unit is built solid and very easy to disassemble for cleaning and maintenance. the flow of the water comes directly through the bottom and then filters up what you through all of the canisters containing biomedia.Ehiem ubstrate pro bio Media comes with this filter, enough to fill 3 of the canisters. the fourth canister at the base is already filled with a foam which pre filters the water prior to it passing the bio media. There is an an additional filter just before the impeller to prevent debris from entering.Typically when I purchased new filters I disassemble and dispose of all the biomedia that they come with and upgrade with my own... However with this one it is clearly not required as it comes with everything which is more than adequate for a good set-up.I've tried many types of external and internal filters, I can say without a doubt that this one is more than good enough to take care of a decent sized tank.If like me you are looking for an additional filter or simply additional biofiltration and as a backup then this certainly meets all of my requirements and I'm sure you'll be pleased with it.This is a very good purchase and highly recommended

Waste of money an poor water flow
Hi there, this willie an honest review,I paid £40 recently on the 200 range, when it arrived it was put in the cabinet under the tank until I had time to exchange my fluval internal pump,so only a week ago took it from its box set it up washed the contents down, took my oldish pump out replaced it with the 200 with four baskets underneath with 2 sponges an 2 substrate balls which were supplied, after 3 days I noticed that nothing was actually coming from head at all, removed it an checked, there was a problem the ceramic shaft was snapped into 3 pieces, after long debate I put it into my rubbish box full of wasted money,an one other thing no matter how u arrange the baskets or what u put in it seriously restricts the flow almost to zero,my honest opinion would be not to buy the over rated an over priced pump, its quite greedy also on energy for what it his, your better of buying a power head an buying the eheim prefilter which contains 2 baskets an a nice green not grey like the 200 an design ur own,an save around £22,which I have done recently, sold by amazon an dispatched by amazon I will atleast look at the contents before you dispatch em please,

Ease of cleaning is breathtaking.
I've used Eheim products for years and they rarely disappoint. This item is brilliant in a tank that needs constant attention. The ease of cleaning is breathtaking. It's taken some of the load off my Experience 150 and in 5 minutes or less it is cleaned and back to full circulating power. If they could I'm sure my fish would thank you for the much reduced disturbance they have to undergo. This is by far the best Eheim product I have ever bought, so much so that after two days in operation I bought the 200 version for my bigger tank. It's a classic case of "you gets what you pays for" and I have no hesitation in paying the higher price for a real quality product. After 3 weeks of operation I can add that I am still pleased with both the 160 and 200 models, I find the Nigagran water flow kind of comforting, sure (as some reviewers have mentioned) you need to clean it every 4-5 days, but this to me means that it doing it's job. Sure, the suckers are not as strong as they might be, but I've turned this to an advantage by supporting the bottom with a suitably sized rock and thereby creating a swim-through feature my weather loach love, (when the pleco isn't there) As for the noise, well my PC and 3D printer drown that out! If not that, it's me playing guitar or mandolin. No big deal. THE MAJOR thing for me is they are taking the load off the Eheim Experience 150s, (one for each tank) reducing the frequency of cleaning them. The 160 and 200 can both be cleaned in less than 10 minutes.

Good filter BUT...
Its quite a good filter. Mechanically, it runs quietly but obviously the raging torrent makes a lot of noise. However, without fail after 6 days it needs cleaning. I love that you can just remove the ball and take the main part out, and it's easy to take each segment apart to clean. It's easy to do. Anyone can do it! Some filters can be a little tricky to open etc, but it really is easy to use straight out of the box. It comes with two sponge sections and two media sections. I particularly like that it slides into the bracket in the tank, so you can leave that there every time and just slide it out.... with other filters, I have had to fish around for the suckers that hold it on and it can be frustrating! So to be honest, I would give 5 stars if it lasted more than 6 days for me despite a pretty clean planted tank.

Should have bought this first
Bought the Eheim Aquaball, but that had so much water bypass it didn’t do much for biological filtration. This on the other hand sucks it from the bottom through each tray so get fantastic filtration for its size. I used my own media but used the course sponge as a bit tricky to make your own (but it’s possible). Noise level, I sometimes have to lift the lid to check it’s that quiet (aquaball was also quiet). Running in a 120l tank and water has been great.
