MonroeShocks & Struts Magnum SC2958 Axle Shaft Damper

This part is probably only understood, as far as it's function and contribution to vehicle safety, by few drivers. My experience let me know quickly that something was a miss with the handling of my Explorer. Already was aware of Explorer issues in that area and what to watch for. I purchased this vehicle used, from a friend, and it had been up to that time been driven very delicately. That friend had purchased it new and was an elderly person at purchase. Was his " take the dog for a ride " vehicle. First good hwy speed drive I did in this Explorer was absolutely scary. Pulled of the interstate and had to do a walk around, look for low tire, or anything else obvious. Took to work next day and inspected it on the lift, found this fifth shock and ordered a replacement. I installed this shock the day after it came in. The difference it made was amazing. If your Explorer of this generation, and the fifth shock hasn't been replaced yet, get it done. It may save your life, it's that big a deal! This is actually the second time I've replaced mine, and what a difference both times.

I bought this replace the 5th shock on a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT (5.0/AWD). I didn't even know I had this shock for over 20 years of owning and maintaining the vehicle. LOL It is an exact match and helps to dampen side sway of the vehicle.
