Best box cake mix around
We discovered Duff's tie dye cake mix 3 years ago when doing a tie dye themed birthday party. Since then, there is no other cake mix we use in this house. Most times, we do the tie dye colors as directed on the box, but sometimes we simply just use the white cake mix. We are not big cake lovers, but we devour this cake and guests who have had it always rave about it too. We've used it for cakes and cupcakes...with frosting and without frosting. It's weird, but I've tried a couple of Duff's other cake mixes and they are not as good as this one. I don't know why, but the mix/batter itself is better than any other boxed mix we have ever tried.

cute Idea
This was a cute idea but it did not turn out how I thought it would.

Moist and tasty
I use the cake mix in a mold. I like how the batter is stiff enough to slay in the various nooks of the mold. Since I can't put icing on the cake, due to the nooks and crannies of the design, it is important that the cake tastes great on its own. And this cake does.Using this mix is slightly fussy and can be messy. You mix the batter, then divide it up into 6 bowls and mix in the three primary colors according to the directions to get the desired colors.

Fun to bake, layers are thin.
The cake was really fun to bake... but man, they don't rise much. So they don't look like the picture. The layers are super thin. I ended up having to bake 4 layers to make a normal size cake.

You need to try this!
I really like the Duff Cake mixes! I haven't tried this tie dye one but I did the "Spring Fling" and it got rave reviews. The cake itself is a lovely flavour...the texture is a bit different than Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker...but I like it. These cakes are not for people who don't like fussing a bit. If you follow all the directions you should have a great result. BUT, they do take a little patience and you have to use your common sense with the bake time. Some reviews I read said it turned out dry...but you need to test it from time to time to avoid overcooking. Also, I used a bundt pan and it was great.

Delicious and Easy to Make
The cake was super yummy. You can get a dozen cupcakes from one box. The box doesn't provide instructions for cupcakes but I baked them at 350 for 15 minutes and then kept adding additional time until they looked done. I'm not sure if it was the food coloring that was provided but the tops of the cupcakes looked wet and deflated a bit when cooling, as if the cake wasn't cooked all the way - but the inside was perfectly baked, so trust the toothpick test.I highly recommend these. the cake was vibrant and yummy.

Far out cake!
This cake was perfect for a Woodstock theme party. The instructions were perfect. The cake was yummy. I was worried it would be bitter with the dye, it was not. They send you color gel to put into batter and the cake looked just like on the box. I made a cream cheese frosting with colored sprinkles for the top. I had 9" round pans so I made 2 boxes worth and used 3 pans for the 3 layers. Perfect size.
