Great furniture polish, scratch cover!
I recently got some dark walnut furniture out of storage, and it needed some serious TLC. Not only was it suffering scratches from before, but it was definitely showing signs of having been stored too long. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a professional restoration effort, so I decided to see what I could do for it on my own. That's where this product came into play. The wood had lost its luster and was even showing some slight signs of surface mold, so I dabbed a bit of this Old English on a cloth and attacked a panel to see what would happen. It was like magic. The wood came back to life, the dimmed parts I suspected were mold disappeared, and the whole panel looked rich and alive and happy. I was pretty shocked, to be honest, so I thought there must be another shoe to drop. I mean, how can this one product breathe new life into old moldy stored wood items with one application? Can't happen. So I waited a few hours and then went and checked the panel fully expecting it to be dried out and dull. But no, it was still beautiful. Hmph, I said to myself, it'll be back gasping for air in the morning. But nope, it was still gorgeous. So I waited a week. Still lovely. Okay, it was time to do the whole piece, plus every other piece that I had rescued from nearly ten years of storage. The results are stunning. Sure, I used a lot of this product, but I had a lot of pieces, and they are all gorgeous now, with new life and shine. As for the scratch coverage, one piece did have a pretty significant scratch (almost a gouge, really) that this product was not really up to disappearing, but it's now much less noticeable, and all the surface scratches and discoloring are completely corrected. I couldn't be more pleased. I will never not have this product in my home. It's a life-saver for wood furniture, no matter how old or neglected it was before being rescued and brought back to life.

Works well
I needed something to cover the scratch marks on my door made by my puppy. It covered the marks very well. It was easy to use, very functional. The bottle size is of the normal size you find anywhere. It is not too thick of a liquid and a good value for the money.

The best product for wood restoration and upkeep!
I have quite a bit of "vintage" wooden furniture, and I also do sanding and refinishing a lot. There is nothing better than this on medium and dark wood! I've been using it for decades since I first discovered it. It covers scratches and scuffs great, and on freshly sanded wood surfaces, it's all you need! The wood soaks it up and restores it without covering up the patterns of the wood. It's a must-have! A bottle lasts a long time (unless you spill it, which is difficult because it has a plastic top under the cap). The price is well worth it for everything it does. I always have a 2nd bottle on hand, just in case they stop making it- which seems to happen every time I love a product. Keep rags on hand (old t-shirt pieces work best) to apply it. Just in case, don't wear white or nice clothes when using it- it stains, and I wouldn't even wash anything it got on, except in a wash load with very dark colors. I wish they would make this in a lighter wood color also.. They make a clear-yellowish one, but so far nothing for medium wood. I mix the dark and clear for those pieces, but that is really hard to do, cause the safety caps don't come off! Try this- you will never consider varnish again!

Not great for scratches but it works miracles on faded furniture!
This product doesn't do a great job at coving scratches and dings, especially small chips/gouges in new wood. The dye just isn't strong enough and it doesn't have any volume to fill gouges like a crayon would for example. That said: This has been a miracle at restoring my faded and damaged wood! I picked up a set of Ethan Allen chairs at a thrift store and they were in bad shape-- bleached, scratched, faded, gouged, scraped, even peeling in places. Instead of just applying the Old English Scratch Cover spot by spot, I just got a paper towel and wiped it over almost the whole chair. Beautiful results! So much easier than re-staining and the chairs have been brought back to life! And unlike staining, I didn't have to strip or worry about matching the color because the color blends in so well. Plus a lot less mess. It also improved the surface of the wood. It definitely conditions the wood, instead of just dying or covering. It takes more than one coat, so you will have to use this a few times, especially for scratches. Incidentally, I also used this to dye leather shoelaces a darker color, and that worked well too, although it made them a little waxy/slippery and the color bled until I let them dry a few days and wiped them down thoroughly. For more severe damage, I've found better results if I let it soak in for a bit before I wipe it all off. It goes without saying but don't sit or touch clothing to the wood surface until this has dried. For scratches or water rings, I'd apply it fairly thick and let it sit, like about the thickness of the minimum oil you'd need to cook an egg with. Then wait a few hours and wipe it away. Then I use regular old english wood protector over it, making sure my paper towel isn't coming up brown before I sit on it. I LOVE this product so I'm giving it 5 stars, BUT beware that if you're buying this to fix a specific little scratch or ding, it doesn't work all that well for that purpose, despite what it is advertised as.
