Q: will this work in a car?

Yes for vehicles with smaller headrests, but not recommended for the driver.

Q: will this work on a bus??

It may, the only problem is that the strap has to go over the headrest and some seats on the bus don't have that adjustable headrest, so it has to go over the seat and the passenger in the back sometimes don't like that.

Q: how long are the straps? I will be riding amtrak and the seats are larger.

The strap is approximately 37” long. Fastening the strap uses about 1-2” making the length about 35”. I have used the ZzzBand on the CAL trains and it worked well. But it will depend on the seat height and width. You can extend the strap by adding a small strip of Velcro.
