Super sturdy and easy to install.
I re-did my deck hand rails, the posts, and replaced the old post hardware with these 4x4 Post Supports. These things are super sturdy, they look good, and the posts are anchored securely to the wood deck - solid as a rock! For the sections I replaced last year I painted them with the same deck paint and they're still looking good 18 months later. You will need to shave some material - not much - from the flange end of your 4x4 post for a snug fit but if you are handy enough to build your own deck this is no big deal. I used a basic rasp and checked the fit frequently as I went along so as not to remove too much.Don't try forcing the post into the flange without trimming the post! The support should slide on with just the smallest bit of friction.Take your time, be smart, follow the directions and you should be very happy with the outcome.

Words can't express the value of this product
I'm a very small 71 year old woman, but with the aid of these base supports I am able to build a 16 X 40 foot deck all by myself. I admit, due to my age, size, and health conditions the project is slow going, but these bases make setting the post and getting it straight a breeze. I've never used base supports before so I was very concerned about how sturdy they would be. I cut off the flange that attached deck posts to the side of my deck, and just set the post in the base and screwed it down. It takes 12 screws to attach the base to the deck, and another 8 screws to attach the post. These are made of a very strong plastic so there will never be any rust. After going to the expense of having a metal deck rail installed and seeing it start to rust the same summer it was installed, well, I'm happy to give this space-aged plastic a try. These state they are 3.5 X 3.5 and they really are. The only problem is a 4X4 deck post that once was 3.5X3.5 is now only 3.1 X 3.1. But the sizing isn't the fault of the product. I was able to make it work for me and paired with the black rail hangers, it adds a nice "finished appearance" to my deck.

Works great!!
Is is a super solution to a big problem...if you don't have a crossbeam to attach to, you are doomed! Except....these little flanges can do the trick. We have a 450' dock and we needed some type of hand railing. We were going to jump through some major hoops to attach the 4x4's, and we were dreading the job. I found these flanges while looking around amazon for some ideas! We ordered just a few to see if they could do what we needed them to do. They were perfect, and we now have around 50 of them running along our dock. We pre-drilled a hole in the top portion of the 4x4 and after we installed the post and flange onto the dock (stainless screws) we ran a nice looking rope down the dock, through the hole (eye) in the top of the post! It looks great!! Thank you!!

Good product
I got these a day earlier than they were scheduled to be delivered. Worked perfect for my deck railing project. I had to spray paint them flat black because the plastic is too glossy. Looks great and the deck posts seem to be firmly in place with 3 screws per side and the top screws. Overall pretty happy with the purchase and my wife really loves the end result. I gave this 4 stars and not 5 because I feel like the plastic flange bottom screw holes could be made from a stronger plastic. I cracked a few installing the screws and having a bit too much torque on my driver.***EDIT/UPDATE****I just wanted to post this really fast, 3 years later and these still look and function like they day I installed them. Very happy with my purchase and def got my money's worth. Would absolutely buy again!

Much easier install with couple simple tips and tricks
All the video of notching post say that this is no longer code. Alternative of carriage bolting post to outside ... of cutting hole in deck and bolting them inside .. neither appealed to me. So knew these were the way to go when I came across them.Just finished installing them and wanted to share couple of tips:1) Set post on top of support just to see which sides and parts of bottom need trimming2) Use a small block plane or wood shaping (grate) tool to slightly round the bottom edge and corners of the post .. makes it much easier to get these in.3) Screw in the support to the deck prior to steps 1 & 24) Don't force post .. look down sides to see bottom parts that need more trimming .. don't swivel or twist post as this will crack top of support.5) After getting post into the support .. it will still feel somewhat loose .. don't worry, top screws make it much more solid6) Use post level to position post so it is level all ways7) While positioning put in top screws to keep it in level positionThat's it ... now post should be level with each other and very secure ... love how easy it was to put in ... and how they look.

I would give these 10 Stars if I could!!!
I need to start out by saying that I've never replaced a deck before. After doing some research online, I realized what I should do and what I shouldn't.My deck is only 12x6, with a small lower level that I will be sanding down and painting soon. I tried to simply follow what the previous homeowners did and replace the lumber piece by piece. This includes the notched 4x4 posts. Huge mistake. After battling with trying to figure out how to notch my own posts, I realized that method is simply not as strong as I'd like. The posts were moving back and forth as well as left and right about 1/4"-1/2".I found these post flanges and realized this is exactly what I should have done from the get go. I ripped down my railing and notched posts and started over. These are Extremely easy to use. It cut my time down by at least half. The posts are 100 times more secure than they were when I had them notched.I had a question before I received the flanges. I contacted the seller through Amazon. Within an hour, Billy called my cell phone. He helped me with all of my newbie questions and made me feel at ease with installing these. I wish more companies had customer service like that.If you are on the fence whether or not should should try these... TRY THEM!! You will love them.
