Is it necessary to use the short hose if the only problem is a leak in the hose close to the sprayer?

It is not necessary to replace the short hose if it is not leaking. I always do the minimum. Mine has been working just fine since July 2021. I saved the short hose just in case there was a problem.

How do you actually get into the base of the tap to replace the section that has the quick connector on the other end?

Since the end that connects to the sprayer has an O ring that fits into the sprayer, I wonder where washers are required.

But… the question is about how to disconnect the threaded end of the short hose from the faucet.

It may be necessary to remove the faucet from the sink to get to that part that secures the short hose to the faucet … and you need a wrench that can access that nut to unscrew it and then expose the 4 hoses, including the short replacement hose and the hot and cold hoses, and the long hose carrying the water. (I have a photo but Amazon allows only videos.)

However, other customers have said that the short hose does not have to be replaced if the only leak is in the longer hose. So I looked at reviews for the hose only – it seems the replacement hose might be thicker and thus difficult to push-pull through the faucet. Mine is 0.5" in diameter, so the replacement hose only should fit.
