This product saved me! I have the genetic mutation that makes me unable to metabolize folic acid, and because of it I have a number of health issues not the least of which is a congenital neural tube defect. Some years ago, my doctor prescribed Deplin 15 mg. From the first dose my life changed drastically. Many of my health issues have greatly improved, particularly my depression, anxiety, and anger issues. I don't even need an antidepressant, just Metafolin, the active ingredient in Deplin and Life Extension Optimized Folate. I will never go another day without my Metafolin!Deplin isn't covered by insurance because it's not FDA approved. (yet?) 90 doses of Deplin costs almost $180. Add to that the fact that my doctor is "too busy" (WTF?) to see me for my yearly physical, and he won't renew my prescription without seeing me. Knowing I'd run out of Deplin well before he could finally get me in, I began scouring the internet for a Metafolin tablet in a large enough dose that I didn't have to take half a bottle of pills to get my daily 15 mg. Enter Life Extension, at about half the price of Deplin. I don't at all mind taking three tabs a day. If anything, I feel even better on Life Extension than I do on Deplin. To hell with my doctor! I am, and forever shall be a loyal Life Extension customer.

I’m a girl who has struggled with hair loss since I was a teenager. I’m now 33 years old and and 3 months ago I was debating shaving my hair off because I was starting to look like the crypt keeper.I have always taken activated folate since I did the gene test that said I couldn’t process folate that well, and my psychiatrists have always recommended a folic acid supplement. I switched from the 1000mcg methlyfolate to this.I was not expecting anything to make a drastic change, but 3 months later I am being told my hair looks much thicker and I took a picture to compare when my hair was at its worst, my hair has grown so much! I feel like crying with joy. Literally nothing has been able to help my hair grow since I was a teenager and now I can actually feel my hair when I put a brush to it. I also feel fantastic, more energy and my mood has been so stable.I will be talking to my doctor next visit to make sure taking this supplement is viable long term, but it has been a miracle for me.

I have been struggling with cardio vascular disease and arteriosclerosis in the last couple of years and my homocysteine level - a marker for additional future problems in those areas - has been very high. When I added this and a mega dose of B12 into my daily routine my homocysteine levels have been cut in half and are still dropping. I have had no detectable side effects. Small pill, easy to swallow and, for me, did all that I hoped it would. I actually use several of the Life Extension products and have been very happy with them all so far. Not the cheapest of the ones available but, IMHO, you get what you pay for.

I love this 5mg dose of Methylfolate. 1mg usually lasts me about 4h-8h (dependant on stress & mood levels) and 5mg is able to last me a full day (about 20h-24h and sometimes even longer).It’s a really convenient dosage because I just need to take 1 pill once a day, instead of having to carry around several 1mg pills so I can pop them every 8 hours. I prefer the 5mg dosage over the 1mg dosage. Very, very convenient!

I'm not sure why they insist on such large bottles for so few pills. We have to buy 2 pk monthly. And bottles are basically empty. Other then that they are just what the doctor ordered and seem just fine

I have a gene mutation so that I cannot absorb folic acid unless in this form. This can lead to depression among other things since folic acid is a precursor to all those neurotransmitters that control emotions & feelings of well being.
