I used this to eliminate static electricity from my treadmill!!
I've found a perfect solution for my treadmill static problem with the iFixit Anti-Static Wrist Strap. While designed for electronics repair, I've repurposed it for my needs. I attached the adjustable elastic band to my treadmill's metal frame and I attach the metal clip to my shorts while using the treadmill. It works great! Before this fix, static electricity made touching my treadmill a shocking experience. Now, the problem is almost completely eliminated! The 6-foot coiled cord gives me plenty of freedom while running. It seems well constructed so I'm hoping this lasts a long time. And even if it doesn't, it's an affordable strap. For anyone facing static issues with exercise equipment, this affordable strap is an unexpected but effective solution. It's such a simple fix that's made my workouts much more enjoyable. Highly recommended for this unconventional but practical use!

iFixit Anti-Static Wrist Strap
Quick words about the continuity issue: This wrist strap indeed provides connectivity; however, it will not show continuity when tested with a multimeter due to its 1MOhm impedance. This specification aligns with its advertising and is a design feature meant to ensure safety. I’ll go back to this, but let me talk about the strap itself now. The strap is comfortable, easily adjustable, and appears durable. It can be connected to a grounded socket in a power supply using a banana plug or to the chassis of a device using an alligator clip, offering versatility in its use. The cable is both flexible and sturdy. A potential improvement could be the addition of a clip or mechanism for easier wearability, although its elastic band design was clear at the time of purchase, and it functions as expected. Regarding the continuity concerns mentioned by some users, my experience confirms the product's specifications. It has an impedance of about 1MOhm, which is intended to safeguard both the user and the devices by enabling a slow discharge of any static electricity. Direct grounding without any impedance could pose a risk if one were to encounter a high-voltage wire, as it facilitates a direct path to ground that could be hazardous. To verify this feature, one should use the impedance setting on a multimeter, expecting to see a value around 1MOhm. Most multimeters set their continuity detection threshold significantly below this, typically between tens and 500 Ohms, explaining why the continuity test may not trigger the expected buzzer sound.

A bit flimsy but works.
I initially thought this item was defective because when I tested for conductivity to confirm it was working, I got no beep from my multimeter. Learned you need to look at the OHM reading (should be just below 1MOhm or .9xxx) due to the resistor built into the molded snap piece. Probably a good idea to test every so often to confirm it is working anyway. The wrist strap clasp needs 2 hands to adjust the fit as it doesn't adjust easily, you should have a snug fit to make sure your skin is in contact with the strap ... since it's hard to adjust the fit, it requires you to set the fit once and stretch it on/off your wrist each time you use it. Not sure the constant stretching will hold up. Is there a better way? Also, the wire is a bit thin. Overall, it works but just wondering how long it will last. Will I always be wondering if it's doing its job and protecting - do I have to test everytime i use it? - Wish it were a bit more robust so I could feel more confident.

Works as intended, not practical enough for me
Bought for my first PC build (not all that necessary, but better safe than sorry). Sometimes the alligator clip can come off but it stays on if you use it right. Clip in onto something textured or it may slip off. I've found with building computers it kind of gets in the way and is not long enough, but it's probably ideal for other small computer work.

Worked like a charm.
Some people say you don't "need" it. That may be true but I also don't think it's such a bad idea to be safe rather than sorry especially for such a low cost. I am an avg user who likes to do his own work when needed. I wasn't about to go out and spend $70+ on an anti static mat when I'd likely only need to pull it out once every cpl of years or so. I also know I'm the type of person who gets so caught up into what I'm focusing on that I'd forget to ground myself every so often. For the minimal cost of this thing it was an easy purchase just for the piece of mind. I'm a pretty avg size guy with rather think legs from sports and this was still able to fit my ankle quite comfortably. The cable is long enough to attach to a ground location and still offer plenty of room to move. I can't comment on the durability of it because I've only just got it and only used it in action once. For $10 and how little I plan to actually use it though I can't imagine this will wear out anytime soon. I think it's worth it.

Simple, effective, and gives peace of mind.
I picked this up for a DIY PC upgrade and it did exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s comfortable enough to wear while working, and it’s a huge relief not having to worry about zapping any sensitive components with static electricity. The strap is easy to adjust, and it stays securely in place. Definitely worth the small investment to protect your gear. Highly recommend!
