I bought this for my daughter who is just starting to seriously bake (26yrs old). I thought it would be a fun gadget but it ended up being so useful. It is a staple in her baking tools (it even deserved a place in the kitchen!!! As the gadgets and less seldom pieces are stored in the kitchen cabinets in the garage). She loves it!!! Good quality craftsmanship too.

I tried to use it once. Never used it again. Not at all sturdy and hard to adjust the size. Prefer freehand cutting

This works the way it's designed to; however, cutting cakes takes some patience since the bars on the side are very sharp and flimsy. Be careful when using/washing, or you'll cut your hands. I'm not sure if it's stainless steel or aluminum, but it works fine and hasn't rusted for me. Just air dry really well.

Not sure how anyone could actually use this. For those who buy this thinking it makes it simpler to torte a cake, they're going to be very disappointed. Granted, I've baked and decorated cakes for years -- and -- I should have known better than to buy this, but it had decent reviews and, for some odd reason, I took leave of my senses and bought it. I knew the minute I took it out of the box that it wasn't going to be exactly what I wanted, because the metal rings and lightweight and a bit floppy. I tried it anyway, I baked two 8-inch layers, which is a standard size but the ring is slightly larger. That matters because the ring will not tighten around the cake, so the cake (or ring) will slide around wile cutting. Second, you better have a serrated knife with a blade that is at least 10" long. That only gives you 1/2" of play when you reach the widest area of the ring. But, even that won't help much because the backside of the ring is solid -- you can't slice through it obviously. That means removing the knife, turning the ring, and then reinserting the knife. What a mess. tossed it in the trash after trying to cut two layers. It's simply not worth it, and I got out my old, but true, Wilton cable cutter. I can't imagine why anyone gave this a good review. I really can't. If you're a cake decorator, don't think this is a step up from the Wilton cutter, it isn't -- it's a step down. A big step down. I recommend saving your money -- use toothpicks as guides around the layers if you must -- but don't buy this.
