Springs too stout to operate
Good product, but on the larger sizes the springs are so stout that it cannot be pulled shut. (I bought the 13x18) I'm a strong 185 lbs and laying on the floor could not pull it all the way shut. Disconnected 2 of the 4 springs and can close it now with great effort but it doesn't seat well with 2 springs off. I had read about this problem in other reviews but took the chance on it. No way my wife can pull it shut.

Good damper cap
Good damper cap. Well made. Springs are a bit too stiff, will probably break on after a while. Good tight seal.

Good cap
Springs are a little to strong but maybe they’ll stretch with time I’d still buy it again

GOOD IN SMALLER SIZE THAN 13x18
This damper cap seemed like good reliable design. The cap does have excellent material quality and workmanship. However, the 13x18" size (Calif: 5/8" mesh) did not work well. In this size, the springs above the cap are so strong that it is extremely difficult to pull the cap closed taking all of my strength to close it fully (and I am a fit 5'11" guy). When fully closed, it was even more difficult to get it reopened again-- so difficult that I scraped my knuckle against the inner fireplace wall while trying to get enough grip to open it. There is no way my petite wife could hope to use this damper. With a windy rainstorm coming, I tried to set it in a fully close position. However, the next morning, the fire place floor was visibly wet with water dripping down the chimney flue. When I checked the cap from the roof, one of the four sides was still 1/4 to 1/2-inch open allowing rain to blow in and down the chimney. For me, that was the coup de gras-- time to send it back and get another design that works better and is easier to use. The dealer said that the larger sizes have beefed-up springs that make them tough to close. I'd say skip this cap if you need 13X18 or larger. Comparable caps are a bit more pricey with springs pushing the cap up from underneath, rather than pulling it up from above. I hope one of those works better for me.
