Provides ample illumination; takes a bit of energy; ticklish to install
This unit provides ample illumination for a large area (at least 50' x 50'), but at the cost of visibly noticeable "red eyes" and a fair amount of energy consumption. These units have been more effective and much more reliable than the smaller multi-LED illuminators that I've used. The only things that bother me about them are their relatively heavy assemblies and the way the mounting bracket fits - which makes installation a bit tricky in certain locations. Also, the fairly lightweight mounting bracket seems to allow the illuminator to "flutter" slightly during high winds, which can trigger motion-detecting cameras. It seems that the mount is the weakest aspect of this unit, which I'm otherwise quite pleased with.

Ok, could be better
This does a decent job of lighting a small area, but the beam is not terribly wide in either vertical or horizontal orientation. I found that mounting this light by the camera and aiming it in the same direction completely destroys the image when anything white/living enters the frame, as the subject appears pure white and reflects a lot of the IR. I had to move the light a few yards away from the camera, and adjust it to light the target area from an angle (about 30 degrees different from the camera). Illuminating the target from the side helps a good deal, as the camera can still make out detail. Note that this was about 30 feet from the target area.Mounting is a bit of a fuss, as it only pivots along one axis. You need to mount it at an angle to aim it, and large angles require switching from horizontal to vertical, or picking a different surface. A 2 axis pivot would have made this product much better. I suggest having someone test it with you before drilling any holes, and even after finding the right spot, just secure one screw and test more until you are sure of the angle. The barrel connector is a bit large to pass through a wall, and is not water tight. You could open it up and solder a new wire to the board, which I ended up having to do. The silicone seal on the one I got was not complete, so it was neccessary to remove the old silicone, and add new. If directly exposed to rain, it would have flooded the back compartment where the 12vdc joins a simple board with the ambient light sensor. The LEDs are sealed in a different compartment, and it looks as if the glass panel is open to air (there is a black resin encapsulating the LEDs and their lenses behind the glass)

It works surprisingly well, but...
These lights cast a surprising amount of IR light for camera use, better than my visible floodlight (but almost perfectly invisible).BUT... the rear housing, where the cable enters, is warped and so cannot be waterproof or even weathertight, even with the little silicone gasket they included. Note: do NOT remove this cover; that silicone gasket is a massive pain to reinstall. If you use these lights, then seal the rear housing with silicone caulk.

Casts a nice IR light that covers a large area not well ...
I bought four of these. I put one outside to test it. It's been out for about 2 or 3 months with no overhead shelter. We've had a lot of rain furring that time with some really heavy downpours. Not a single problem with it so far. Casts a nice IR light that covers a large area not well lighted by my Dahua 4 mp IR bullet camera. I have a 12 volt 8 camera power station I don't use. I am dedicating that to run the 4 IR's lights I have now and I plan to get another four. I think these are really good IR lights. I did put some silicone sealant on the joints and on the plug where the male plug plus in. I don't know that was needed. I just like to have as much weather protection as possible for unsheltered lights.

Wide angle illumination, but only horizontally. Very narrow vertically.
It does illuminate, but only in a very narrow depth of field. The wide angle coverage is only along the x axis. The y axis is very narrow.[UPDATE: 1/2017] - I am updating this review and bumping it up a star because it still works after several months of 24/7 use, which is better than I've had with other illuminators. I just wish that depth was not so narrow.

Excellent IR Illuminator !
This IR Illuminator is my second "6 lamp" unit. The other is a Univivi U06R. Both are proving to be excellent units, providing a narrow focused beam, around 60 degrees as advertised, and another 20 degrees or so of additional illumination to each side. I have a set up that is around 70 feet from the area being illuminated. The brightness is fairly intense, so I wouldn't recommend using at short distances unless that is what you are looking for. At this point in time this unit is a few dollars less than the Univivi which is also a positive. Buy this unit, I believe you will be satisfied.

PURCHASE NOW if your camera has IR capabilities!
Ordered these awhile back, been lagging on install. But I finally installed them yesterday and it’s definitely an upgrade for my security cameras IR output.I have a clearer view further away.I originally purchased one, but I decided to get three more for the front garage area.I’d definitely get a few more to light up some of the other not well lit areas around my house.

Not any more light than a 4 light unit
Works OK. Not as wide as I would like. I also have a four led version of this light and, strangely enough, the four light unit seems to put out more light than this six emitter model. I used a photography flash trick and put some lightly clouded plastic over the lenses to diffuse the infrared a little better and get wider coverage. Look at my pictures: first is the 6 light unit; second is the four light unit. Maybe this is just a bad unit.

Five Stars
Been working fine in -30C weather. Bright and good pattern.

OK but not as bright as they claim
Relatively robust and just about does what I need it to but don't be fooled by the claims of 20-50m - it isn't, more like 10m for sufficient illumination to get decent image quality. I was also led to buy this one because of the apparent diffusing glass over the LED's but this doesn't spread the light very wide and it's still quite a focused beam. It gives out more light than my camera does but only just. It's best used to complement the camera light over the same area rather than trying to extend the view range significantly. Also note that while the light itself might keep the rain out, you'll need to encase the power supply connection somehow - either in with the camera's connections or in its own.

Illuminatore IR spettacolare...!!!
